Warrick Dunn announced on Wednesday that he plans to return for at least one more season. “I can’t go out like this,” Dunn told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “This is not the way I think anyone should go out. Any guy who’s ever thinking about retiring and has to go through a situation like this, I don’t think this is the way you should go out. You need to go out on better terms. I’ll definitely come back next year and play football.” Dunn has one year remaining on his contract with the Falcons.

Warrick Dunn was not effective against the Giants Monday, rushing eight times for 15 yards. He also had two catches for 13 yards. You have to wonder when the Falcons will start to make more of an effort to feature Jerious Norwood (who had 138 yards and a score Monday, much of it coming on one run).

Warrick Dunn will start on Sunday against the Vikings. Head coach Bobby Petrino named Dunn the starter over his second-year understudy Jerious Norwood on Wednesday. “We expect to get him in there as the starter, give him the ball, and let him go,” Petrino told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Warrick Dunn was held to eight yards on six carries during Monday’s game against the Bengals. It was his first appearance since undergoing back surgery last month.

Although no official announcement has been made, all indications are that Warrick Dunn will be the starting tailback when the Falcons face the Vikings in Week 1, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He is slated to start Monday’s preseason game against the Bengals.

Warrick Dunn will start Monday’s preseason game against the Bengals. “We’d like him to get lathered up, feeling good and confident with some of the new blocking schemes,” head coach Bobby Petrino told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It would be soft of a weekend decision on how many reps Warrick would take.” Dunn had back surgery last month.
August 21, 2007
Warrick Dunn participated in his first full workout on Monday since undergoing back surgery last month, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He is not expected to practice on Tuesday.
August 13, 2007
The Falcons finally got some good news on Monday when Warrick Dunn returned to practice. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Dunn, who has been sidelined for three weeks with a herniated disc in his back, worked with the second team and participated in every drill. Dunn will probably see plenty of work with the first team during the remaining preseason games and enter the regular season in a committee with Jerious Norwood.
July 25, 2007
The offseason nightmare continued for the Falcons on Wednesday when Warrick Dunn underwent hernia disc surgery. ESPN.com reports that he is expected to miss six weeks, meaning he will miss training camp and the preseason games. Dunn also underwent shoulder surgery during the offseason.
January 18, 2007
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Warrick Dunn had shoulder surgery within the last two weeks and faces months of rehab before being able to lift weights or go through football workouts. He is expected to make a full recovery, but his potential absence from minicamps could allow Jerious Norwood to get a leg up on the race for the starting job next year.

GM Rich McKay said that Warrick Dunn will return to the team next season, but he could have a reduced role in the offense, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dunn, who will make $3.25 million in 2007, could split carries with or possibly even serve as a backup to Jerious Norwood.
