The Dolphins placed Trent Green on injured reserve on Saturday. He suffered a severe concussion in Week 5. "At this point, this is the best thing for Trent and the team," coach Cam Cameron says in a statement released to the AP. "The doctors have prescribed rest for now. No long-term decisions regarding Trent's future have been made."

Trent Green was back at practice on Monday and could return to the playing field soon. “There has been nothing to say that I can’t come back and play,” Green told the Miami Herald. “Now, it’s just a matter of the team and I discussing what needs to be done in the future. I have a few more tests to go through. But so far, everything has tested out normal.”

Trent Green was so encouraged after undergoing neurological testing in Missouri on Wednesday that he called head coach Cam Cameron and stated his desire to return to the playing field as soon as possible. "He's really upbeat," Cameron told the Miami Herald. "You could imagine, that's what makes those guys who they are and what they are. They're competitors, and they think a little differently than the rest of us sometimes. They can't imagine not playing." Green will continue to be tested and monitored by the same neurological experts who oversaw his comeback from a severe concussion a year ago, when he missed eight games with a similar injury. Cleo Lemon has been named the indefinite starter for the Dolphins in Green's stead.

Quarterback Trent Green was in Kansas City today having his latest concussion evaluated by the same doctors that he dealt with while he was recovering from a similar injury last season. Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said, “He went through some tests this morning, and he told me it’s very encouraging. He’s really upbeat, that’s what makes those guys who they are—they’re competitors. They can’t imagine not playing. With that being said, we’ve got to let this thing play out.”

After being taken off the field on a stretcher during the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Texans, Trent Green was diagnosed with a concussion at a Houston hospital and was able to return to the stadium after the game. He joined the Dolphins on their team flight home to Miami instead of staying in the hospital for further evaluation. “It was great to see him in the locker room, and in the training room up and about, talking,” defensive end Jason Taylor told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Quarterback Trent Green tried to throw a block for receiver Ted Ginn, and took a knee to the side of the head. Green was strapped to a stretcher and taken off the field. Cleo Lemon replaced Green at quarterback.

Head coach Cam Cameron announced on Monday that Trent Green has beaten out Cleo Lemon and will be the Dolphins starting quarterback. "We're at a point where we need to start putting this offense together and the number one thing our offense needs is leadership," Cameron told the Associated Press. "Trent brings that, but I do believe Cleo's time is coming and he's got a lot of room for growth."

Coach Cam Cameron insists that veteran Trent Green has not yet been handed the starting job for the Dolphins. "As we work toward naming a starter, I'll make that announcement when my instincts tell me to make that announcement," Cameron told the Miami Herald. "Competition makes us all better… I think both [Green and Cleo Lemon] will benefit from the competition. When you have that situation, let it play out." Green and Lemon are expected to split snaps early in training camp.

Trent Green had already looked at about an hour of film from recent Dolphins practices by the time he was introduced at a press conference on Thursday, and he already feels comfortable in the offense he’ll be running in Miami. “It’s probably about 80-85 percent the same terminology [as Kansas City’s]” Green told the Miami Herald of the system being installed by Cam Cameron. “It’s like how part of the country calls it ‘soda’ and part of it calls it ‘pop.’” Green will work under quarterbacks coach Terry Shea, who was his position coach in Kansas City from 2001 to 2003, and he’s also familiar with Cameron from when both were with the Redskins.

It looks like the Dolphins finally have found a way to pry Trent Green away from the Chiefs. The two teams reportedly have reached agreement on a trade that will be completed once he passes a physical, according to the AP. Green will be their starting quarterback, and his arrival likely will result in Daunte Culpepper's departure.

The Dolphins have upped their offer to the Chiefs for Trent Green. A sixth-round pick had been on the table, but the Dolphins are willing to make it a fifth-rounder if Green meets certain incentives next season, according to the KC Star. Considering the Chiefs have been looking for a fourth-round pick, the new offer isn't likely to make them jump.

Trent Green is reportedly prepared to take another step toward maneuvering his way onto the Dolphins' roster, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The NFL's web site reported Wednesday night that Green is set to attend Kansas City's upcoming OTA (Organized Team Activity) sessions that begin Monday. The Chiefs cannot bar Green from participating in the OTAs, which are scaled-down versions of minicamp practices, and would have to guarantee his 2007 base salary of $7.2 million if he suffered a season-ending injury during a session. The NFL's web site also said the Dolphins are willing to raise their trade offer and send more than a sixth-round draft pick to the Chiefs for a player who would become their starting quarterback.

The Dolphins may have interest in bringing in Trent Green as a backup, according to the Miami Herald. However, they do not want to give up a high draft pick and might wait to see whether Green gets released. The Browns are also reportedly interested in Green's services.

March 23, 2007

Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said yesterday he is willing to pull Trent Green to put in Damon Huard if the offense struggles against the Colts this weekend, according to the KC Star. "You have to win the game," Edwards said. "There’s no tomorrow. And you have to do whatever is best for the football team at that point. I’ll do whatever I have to do. When you’re in the playoffs, you’re desperate."
