Even though Keenan McCardell has recovered from his hamstring injury, he probably will sit out Sunday's finale, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "The likelihood of him playing is not real high at this juncture," coach Marty Schottenheimer said. "He has made terrific progress. I want to err on the side of caution."

The St. Petersburg Times reports that the Buccaneers did not reach out to holdout wide receiver Keenan McCardell on Monday despite the injury suffered by Joey Galloway. Meanwhile, a spokesman for McCardell's agent said "We know for a fact that Bruce Allen was offered a fourth-round pick for Keenan last week and he refused." There appears to be no progress in the stalemate between the two sides.

McCardell is still holding out for a new contract and has vowed to sit out the season if he's not given one. Dick Vermeil didn't sound optimistic, however, explaining that if the Chiefs may not have the money to convince McCardell to play.

McCardell is holding out for a new contract, and the Fish may be tempted to trade for him considering their lack of depth at wide receiver. They've already lost David Boston for the year, and may have lost Kendall Newson, as well.

With Keenan McCardell and the Bucs at a stalemate in contract talks, the receiver's agent suggested that releasing his client might be best for both sides, according to the Tampa Tribune. "At least if the Bucs release Keenan now, they can gain immediate salary cap relief, with which they can address some of their other needs," said McCardell's agent, Gary Uberstine. "They can also do this without compromising their attempt to recapture his previously paid signing bonus and roster bonus."
