While attending a memorial service for Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt, Priest Holmes spoke with the Kansas City Star about a potential return in 2007. "What was needed was some time off. Having an entire 12 months without contact has put me in position to be able to make a decision in ’07 whether I should return." He gave no indication of when he would make the decision.

Priest Holmes, who has not played at all this year due to a severe neck injury, will not return to the Chiefs this season, according to the AP. This doesn't come as a surprise, but it at least gives us some closure on the issue. That said, Holmes is still hoping to return for the 2007 season. "He does not, at this time, plan to give up football," GM Carl Peterson said. "We're looking at another evaluation in January or February of '07."

The Chiefs have until Nov. 28 to decide whether Priest Holmes will be activated from the PUP list this season, according to the KC Star. He remains out indefinitely with a neck injury. Barring an unexpected turnaround in his condition, Holmes isn't expected to play again.

The KC Star reports that Priest Holmes will be examined by a neurosurgeon later this week, after which the Chiefs are expected to make an announcement regarding his playing status. Holmes remains sidelined indefinitely with a neck injury and is not expected to play this season. In fact, his career likely is finished, barring an unexpected turnaround in his condition.

The future of Priest Holmes, who is recovering from a severe neck injury, is still unclear, according to the Kansas City Star. "I don't know if it's telling," coach Herm Edwards said of Holmes' absence. "I haven't been around Priest a whole lot. They say he’s like Casper the Friendly Ghost. You'll never find him or see him. That's just kind of his way. I just know that we’ll have another conversation in another week to figure out which way we’re going." Chiefs president/general manager Carl Peterson did say that he talks to Holmes about every other week and that the running back still seems open to playing, but we really don't have any more info than that.
August 28, 2006
The Chiefs placed Priest Holmes on the reserve/physically unable to perform list Monday, meaning that the running back will not be able to participate in the team's first six games of the regular season. It seems to be becoming more and more likely that Holmes will not play at all this season, and he may just decide to retire because of a lingering neck injury.

Coach Herm Edwards has stated that Priest Holmes, who is sidelined with a severe neck injury, is expected to stay on the physically-unable-to-perform list to start the season, according to the Kansas City Star. This means that Holmes will miss the first six weeks of the season. However, there's a very good chance that he won't play at all this year.

Priest Holmes, who is recovering from last year's neck injury, still hasn’t been cleared for contact and has left it in his doctors’ hands to decide when he’ll be ready to play, according to the Kansas City Star. Asked whether his final evaluation will happen before training camp next month, Holmes said he didn’t know.
May 20, 2006
Although Chiefs president/GM Carl Peterson said that Priest Holmes is "making progress" in his recovery from last year's neck injury, if the season started today, Holmes wouldn't play. Peterson said doctors remain concerned about contact.
May 4, 2006
Coach Herm Edwards said Wednesday that Priest Holmes will not be in Kansas City when offseason practice starts in two weeks because he hasn’t been medically cleared, according to the Kansas City Star. “I told him, ‘Hey, when you get cleared, when you get ready in your mind to get back here, you need to be back here,’” Edwards said. Holmes is recovering from a neck injury.
February 26, 2006
Priest Holmes underwent tests Friday to help determine if he is neurologically sound to play football, though the results haven't been released, according to the KC Star. His career is up in the air due to pressure on his spine, the result of a helmet-to-helmet hit.

It's not yet clear whether Priest Holmes will retire this offseason. However, if he returns for next season, it will be as the backup to Larry Johnson, according to the Capital-Journal.
