Damon Huard will move into a backup role behind Trent Green this week against the Raiders, according to FOXSports.com. Damon Huard may have opened the door for Trent Green to reclaim his starting job by completing just 15-of-38 passes in a loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. Huard led the Chiefs to 10 fourth-quarter points in a comeback attempt but failed to get the team into field goal range on a final drive.

ESPN.com is reporting that coach Herm Edwards may stick with Damon Huard as his starting quarterback even after Trent Green returns from his concussion. "The one thing you can never count out is chemistry on this football team, and that's very important," Edwards said. "I know that, I'm a former football player, I'm a coach, but I also understand there's a certain chemistry you have." Green is expected to be cleared to play on Nov. 19 against Oakland.

Damon Huard said an MRI on the groin he strained in practice Thursday revealed no tear, according to the KC Star. He added that he felt better Friday than Thursday, but coach Herm Edwards said Huard would be a game-time decision for Sunday. If Huard can't go, rookie Brodie Croyle would get the nod.

Damon Huard suffered an undisclosed injury in Thursday's practice and his status is now in doubt for Sunday's game with the Seahawks, the Kansas City Star reports. Rookie quarterback Brodie Croyle took reps with the first-team offense on Thursday. Chiefs No. 2 quarterback Damon Huard might not take part in Thursday's preseason game due to a sprained foot, according to the KC Star. You want a quarterback to at least be mobile."
August 10, 2006
Chiefs coach Herm Edwards announced yesterday that Damon Huard has solidified himself as the No. 2 quarterback behind Trent Green, according to the KC Star. That happened in part because rookie Brodie Croyle is injured, so the depth chart could still change. Later in the day, Huard sprained his foot. It's not clear how long he might be sidelined, but the Chiefs signed Jeff Smoker to give them some depth in the interim.
