Edgerrin James previously indicated that he would skip the Colts' trip to Japan for an exhibition game, but he's since changed his mind, according to the Indianapolis Star. They're coming down on me real hard."

Edgerrin James plans to report to training camp today, but the Indianapolis Star reports an upcoming article in Sports Illustrated quotes James as saying he won't accompany the club to Japan for their Aug. 6 preseason game against the Falcons. "The closest I'm going to get to Tokyo is Benihana," he said. James does not like to travel by airplane, and he's never been a fan of preseason games.

Edgerrin James still wants a long-term contract, but he has no intention of forcing the issue with a holdout, according to the Indianapolis Star. He skipped the Colts' mandatory three-day minicamp and has not participated in its voluntary summer school. James has little confidence in a long-term deal being completed before the season. "Man, nothing (is) getting done," James said. "It ain't going to happen."
May 21, 2005
As expected, Edgerrin James didn't show up for the start of the Colts' mandatory three-day minicamp that began yesterday, according to the Indianapolis Star. Although James told coach Tony Dungy why he wasn't there, Dungy and James' agent declined to comment about the running back's absence.

The agent for Edgerrin James indicated that Colts president Bill Polian is trying to trade the Pro Bowl running back, according to the Indianapolis Star. "The team has indicated to me that the best they can offer is the one-year deal," said agent Drew Rosenhaus. "We both agree that a trade is the best option for everyone. Bill and I are actively trying to find a trade. If it's out there, we'll find it between the two of us."

The agent for Edgerrin James said Wednesday that Colts president Bill Polian would not require a team to give up a first-round draft pick in exchange for the Pro Bowl running back, according to the AP. "The bottom line is that I talked to the Colts today, and [Polian] doesn't think he can get a long-term deal done," agent Drew Rosenhaus said in a telephone interview. "He is being very reasonable and flexible in a trade."

Edgerrin James hired Miami-based Drew Rosenhaus to be his new agent, and Rosenhaus stated that he will seek out long-term deals from several teams, including the Dolphins, according to the Miami Herald. The Colts have already placed the franchise tag on James, which means that no team can sign him without giving up two first-round picks. It's at least possible, though perhaps not likely, that the Colts will trade James.
