The Dolphins officially ended Daunte Culpepper's season by placing him on the IR Tuesday, according to the AP. Culpepper hadn't played since Week 4 because of recurring knee problems.

Coach Nick Saban admitted Monday that Daunte Culpepper is unlikely to return this season, acccording to the Miami Herald. "I would not disagree that it would be unlikely, based on what we know right now," Saban said. "We've kept that hope alive more as an insurance policy of late -- in case something happened to somebody else that that possibility existed that might be a better option." Culpepper's stalled rehabilitation program is set to restart this week.

Daunte Culpepper, who is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery, will be on crutches for a few days this week, according to the Florida Sun-Sentinel. "Then he'll be able to get back to his rehabilitation [next week], and we'll see how it goes from there, but there has been no decision made relative to that future," coach Nick Saban said of the possibility of placing Culpepper on injured reserve.

Daunte Culpepper had arthroscopic knee surgery to remove a piece of cartilage that had hampered his recovery from last year's more serious procedure. "I had a minor procedure to remove some scar tissue that will help me in my rehabilitation," Culpepper said. "I played through some pain in the first four games and didn't feel that I had an explosive burst, but the problem couldn't be detected by an MRI."

Daunte Culpepper is admitting that he might not be ready to play again until 2007, the Palm Beach Post reports. He's been out six weeks while he attempts to rehabilitate his right knee. "Me being the positive person I am, of course I want to" play this year, Culpepper said Thursday in his first public comments since Oct. 11. "But I'm going to be very smart about it, we're going to be very smart about it as a team, and do what's best for me."

Daunte Culpepper, out since Oct. 1 while rehabilitating his right knee, probably won't return to practice this week, according to the Miami Herald. "I think it's week-to-week in how we feel he's progressing," Saban said of Culpepper's status for practice this week. "When Wednesday comes, we'll make that decision based on where he is. The focus is on the rehab." There have been some rumblings that the team is considering placing him on IR.

Daunte Culpepper's continued soreness in his patellar tendon is worrisome enough to the Dolphins that the team is considering putting him on injured reserve, the Miami Herald reports. "I don't have a date, but that's something you may consider at some point in time," head coach Nick Saban said Thursday. "I don't want to shut that door until we feel like it's going to take the season to get it back." Joey Harrington will continue to start at quarterback for Miami in the meantime, with Cleo Lemon the backup.

The quarterback is currently shut down from playing so can focus on rehabbing his knee. Daunte Culpepper is effectively shut down for at least two weeks during his return to the rehabilitation program for his knee, the Miami Herald reports. This means Joey Harrington will start at least the next two weeks, though Harrington's stay could be a lot longer than that if he does anything productive against the Jets and Packers. Miami then gets its bye Week 8, followed by a trip to Chicago.

The Sun-Sentinel cites a source that said Daunte Culpepper "took a lot of snaps in practice (Friday) and looked good." Culpepper was limited in practice the day before by a bruised right shoulder. Coach Nick Saban refused to say whether Culpepper or Joey Harrington will start Sunday, even though Culpepper is listed as probable. "He wants to play in the game," Saban said of Culpepper. "We have to make a decision if he's physically capable of doing that. He practiced OK today. We want to watch the tape."

ESPN.com reports that Daunte Culpepper may not start on Sunday because of a bruised right shoulder. The injury caused Culpepper to miss part of practice Thursday. "This is not an issue relative to results or anything that has happened in games," coach Nick Saban said Friday. "It's a physical, medical, ability issue. Can the guy do what he needs to do to be successful? If we were 4-0 right now, we'd be having the same conversation." Joey Harrington would get the start if Culpepper is unable to go.

Daunte Culpepper returned to practice Friday morning after being held out of most of Thursday's session with a sore shoulder, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. Culpepper threw short passes to wide receivers and running backs during the early portion of the session. The rest of the practice was then closed to the media.

Daunte Culpepper impressed his new team Saturday will the way he threw and ran the ball just nine months after knee surgery, according to the Miami Herald. "We are surprised at the progress that he has made, but we did have several medical meetings with Dr. [James] Andrews, who did the surgery, and felt pretty good about the result, and with his attitude, how he could overcome it," Dolphins coach Nick Saban said. "So, it's all been a pleasant surprise for us, and we are happy about it." It looks like Culpepper should be ready to go at the start of the season, but he isn't out of the woods just yet.

Even though he's not 100 percent, Daunte Culpepper has been cleared to practice and will be under center when Dolphins training camp opens up at 9:30am on Saturday morning, according to the Miami Herald. "I didn't say full speed. Full speed for him," head coach Nick Saban said. "Whatever his full speed is right now, which is how he did stuff in [organized team activity] days. I'm not saying he was 100 percent. But he was able to participate at a level where he could do the things effectively at his position. And we're going to continue to make progress toward that being 100 percent."

Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Friday that Daunte Culpepper is progressing well from his November knee surgery, according to the Miami Herald. Culpepper recently had the joint examined by Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery. "''Dr. Andrews gave him an A-plus grade in terms of where he was in his rehab," Saban said. "We're just going to continue to progress with him. We can make no predictions about when he'll be 100 percent, and we certainly won't put him in a situation that he can't continue to make progress. He has already participated in just about everything that we do in our offseason program. His straight-line running is fine. He's throwing the ball. He's dropping back. He runs the plays and does the handoffs. He wears a knee brace and he probably does it about three-quarter speed, but we're very pleased with his progress." Only time will tell if he'll be ready for the start of the season, but things look good so far.

During a news conference on Monday, Daunte Culpepper backed off the statement he made last month when he said that he would be ready for the start of the regular season, according to the Miami Herald. "Well, me personally, that's my goal, but there really is no timeline on when I am going to be 100 percent or ready to play,'' Culpepper said Monday. ``Me personally, that's my personal goal, but I still have a good picture of the whole thing, and I'm real good with reality and I know that an injury like this, it's tough to come back from that quick.'' As part of the restructuring of the contract of Daunte Culpepper when he was acquired in March, the Dolphins added incentive clauses, according to the Miami Herald. He can earn an additional $1.35 million if he is the NFL Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player of the Year, plays at least 75 percent of the offensive plays, leads Miami to the Super Bowl title and is named Super Bowl MVP. The bulk of the incentives are tied to him playing at least 75 percent of the plays and winning a playoff game.

"If a trade does not happen then I am asking the Vikings to terminate my contract as soon as possible," Culpepper said. Culpepper said in an e-mailed statement that "trying to delve into speculation, innuendo, rumor or anything else of this nature would be a waste of energy." Baltimore, Miami, Oakland and the New York Jets all are teams expected to pursue quarterbacks this offseason. Culpepper is due a $6 million roster bonus March 14, and the Vikings seemingly would want to make a decision by then.
