Ricky Williams admitted that he was tempted to smoke marijuana during the Dolphins' bye in Week 4, according to the Miami Herald. He said, "There was definitely an urge. But I just thought about what I have to lose and it was easy. The urge didn't last very long. I've done a lot of work at understanding myself a little bit more. So I recognize the urge was just a result of the feeling of being free, and I was just trying to maximize it. And I realize that I really enjoy meditating and when I can go home and sit in my room and meditate, I can get the same feeling."

Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown had a tough opening game against the Jets. Williams, who started, carried the ball 10 times for 24 yards and added four receptions for 15 yards. Brown rushed six times for 23 yards and chipped in three catches for 28 yards.

Ricky Williams, who recently inked a one-year contract extension, said he would like to retire as a member of the Dolphins, according to the Miami Herald. Williams said, "Ideally, that's what I want (to end career in Miami). And if I keep playing like this, hopefully I'll have that opportunity. Hopefully, every time we get to this point in the season, they'll say, `We like you and we don't want you to become a free agent."

Although it’s far too early to draw definitive conclusions, the early returns from the team’s offseason program are favorable for a seemingly changed and dedicated Williams.

Coach Tony Sparano said, "I'm not surprised (by his progress), I guess, just knowing how hungry Ricky really is to get at this thing. I love his attitude. I love everything about what he's doing right now. I really do. I'm excited for the guy. I'm excited to see him doing well out there and having a little bit of fun. I am impressed with his burst. Again, no different, it's part of an offseason program. It's something we've been preaching about. They've had an offseason program now, it's been nine weeks they have been going at this thing pretty good. I think if you ask them, they'll tell you that. It's been nine solid weeks so you are starting to see some of it pay off. I think, individually, they're seeing that."

Ricky Williams reportedly looked really good during the Dolphins' OTA today, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The Sentinel even mentioned that it wouldn't be a stretch to see Williams start a game or two this season.

Ricky Williams has never been more determined and speaks of wanting to be one of the league’s three to five best running backs, according to the Miami Herald. Bill Parcells, who told Williams he believes in him, has apparently pushed the right buttons. Williams is doing all the right things at this stage of the offseason, but keep in mind he has played in one NFL game over the past two seasons.

Ricky Williams continues to recover well from a torn pectoral muscle, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "Ricky has just been cleared for all activities, other than heavy lifting," said Williams' agent Leigh Steinberg. "His exchanges with [Dolphins vice president of football operations] Bill Parcells have all been positive. Knowing Bill's track record, Ricky is encouraged and excited about the coming season. You could say he's chomping at the bit." Williams made a one-game cameo last season before suffering the injury. Everything is up in the air with Bill Parcells taking over the Dolphins, but at this point, Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams appear to be their top two backs for 2008.

Ricky Williams is still recovering from a torn pectoral muscle that sidelined him six carries into his first game back from a suspension last November, according to the Palm Beach Post. Agent Leigh Steinberg said last week that the injury is healing nicely and Williams will be ready well before training camp. He is working out at the Dolphins' practice facility, and along with Ronnie Brown is expected to be part of a one-two punch at running back for Miami in 2008.

Ricky Williams was recently a guest on Dan Patrick’s radio show and provided some insight into his future with the club, according to the Palm Beach Post. Williams described his first encounter will Bill Parcells after last season, and the meeting suggested the former NFL rushing leader will be a factor. “Earlier in the day, we were in a meeting with the whole team, and he was going through his spiel of what he wants, what he’s looking for,” Williams said. “He said ‘I don’t want any punks, any troublemakers. I don’t want any of these things.’ And I’m sitting there, thinking ‘Oops, I guess I’m not going to be here.’ A couple hours later he called me into his office and told me that he wanted me and he really believed in me. He’s been really positive about keeping me involved and inspiring me to contribute this year.” It appears if Williams can stay clean, he will be backing up Ronnie Brown in 2008, and possibly more if the latter struggles getting back to form following knee surgery.
