At this point, the Packers are hopeful that Donald Driver will be available for the regular-season opener. "That's what we think will probably happen," GM Ted Thompson said, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "You never know, but we feel pretty good right now. We're lucky." Driver, who sprained his right foot during Thursday's exhibition game, was wearing a protective boot on Friday. It's promising news, but whether he actually will suit up for Week 1 will depend on how his foot responds to treatment over the next couple of weeks.

Early indications are positive regarding Donald Driver. The veteran sprained his right foot on Thursday night, but head coach Mike McCarthy tells the Green Bay Press-Gazette that the injury is not believed to be serious. Driver will undergo more testing on Friday.

Donald Driver had to leave Thursday's preseason game in the second quarter after hurting his right ankle. Driver caught Aaron Rodgers' first pass of the game just to left of the line of scrimmage, made a spin move and appeared to have the ankle pinned while being tackled, according to the AP. After trainers briefly looked at him on the sideline, Driver was taken away on a cart to the locker room. The Packers said he was going through tests and was unlikely to return.

The Packers and Donald Driver agreed to a contract extension that adds nearly $11 million to his existing deal, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The two teams added a year to the deal and his is now under contract through 2009. Driver has 421 receptions for 5,929 yards and 36 touchdowns during his career.

Donald Driver failed a physical and was placed on the PUP list this weekend. Driver has been dealing with a shoulder injury for seven months now and lacked the arm strength necessary to pass the test, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "He has a re-occurring injury with the shoulder that he hurt last year, so, he will be day-to-day with the shoulder," coach Mike McCarthy said. Although McCarthy said he was "not concerned" about the problem, it's hard to not wonder about Driver's condition at this point. He has plenty of time to recover for the regular season, but you'll want to follow his status to make sure that he's able to live up to his usually reliable standards.
