Najeh Davenport got a lot of work in the Steelers' blowout win over the Chiefs on Sunday. Davenport rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. It appears that Davenport would be the primary rusher for the Steelers if Willie Parker were to go down with an injury.

Najeh Davenport, who made his Steelers debut in Week 5, could see more playing time in the coming weeks, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "We'll look at that as a possibility," coach Bill Cowher said. "I was encouraged. I think he's gotten more comfortable in this offense. I think he can also give you some things in the kicking game. ... So he does give you some versatility. He's got excellent hands, so he could potentially be a third-down guy."

Despite saying in the preseason that Willie Parker would stay on the field in goal-line situations, Cowher admitted that the other backs on the team could get those chances. "Somebody will hopefully come in and fill that role," he said.

The Packers released Najeh Davenport in their final round of roster cuts Saturday, according to the AP. Davenport struggled to stay healthy in his time with Green Bay. He broke his ankle against New Orleans Oct. 9 and missed the rest of last season. He returned to the Packers this year, but had nagging injuries in training camp and averaged only 2.7 yards per carry in the preseason.

Packers GM Ted Thompson said that Najeh Davenport is recovering well from the ankle injury that required surgery and ended his 2005 season early, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "Najeh is doing very well," Thompson said. "Sometime during the preseason, maybe not at the very start, we expect Najeh and Ahman (Green) to be back. We're going to try to be very cautious."

Recovering from surgery to repair a broken ankle, Najeh Davenport hasn't taken part in offseason minicamps, but he was able to smack a couple of homers in a charity softball game over the weekend, according to the Press-Gazette. "The goal has always been to be back for training camp,” he said. “I should be 100 percent by training camp.”
