Carson Palmer will not start this weekend due to an inflamed elbow, according to Bengals.com. Coach Marvin Lewis said it's possible Palmer could be the backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Coach Marvin Lewis said Palmer threw for all the routes, whether they were short, long or intermediate. "He did well. We'll see how he is in the morning," Lewis said. Carson Palmer, who is dealing with inflammation in his right elbow, did not throw passes during Wednesday's practice, according to the Bengals' official website. He is only simulating a throwing motion in drills and said, "Nothing's changed. I'm preparing to play. I'm expecting to play. I'll be a little bit limited in practice, but I'm getting as many reps as I can. It looks like it's going to come down to a decision later in the week. It's definitely getting better. It's progressing day-to-day. I just cross my fingers and keep praying and hope it keeps progressing."

ESPN.com reports that Carson Palmer insists that he will play against the Cowboys in their Week 5 matchup. He will be limited in practice this week by a sore elbow on his passing arm. "I've already made up my mind I'm playing," Palmer said. "I'm going to do what I can in practice and do what they let me do, but I'm 100 percent expecting to play going into this game, and planning on playing. I'll probably be limited in practice, but I'll do what I can."

It was precautionary to not allow him to play Sunday, which went against his wishes, so that we have an opportunity to have him ready to go for next week and beyond. We'll evaluate where he is on Wednesday. It's progressing, but today it was the best thing to do for him long-term."

Late in yesterday's loss to the Tennessee Titans, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was replaced by backup, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Reports after the game said that Palmer had injured his knee, but today head coach Marvin Lewis said that Palmer sprained his ankle. Even though he came out of the game, Lewis indicated that Palmer would be ok, according to the Bengals official web site.

The Cincinnati Bengals gained four additional picks - compensation for free agents lost in 2007 - in the NFL draft later this month, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Bengals were awarded with a third-round pick (97th overall), an additional sixth-round pick (207th overall) and two more in the seventh round (244th and 246th overall). The Bengals currently have 10 total selections in the 2008 draft. Prior to the compensatory pick announcement the Bengals had one selection each in Rounds 1 through 6. The Bengals traded their original pick in Round 7 to St. Louis for backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
