Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said Reuben Droughns will start again this week over Tatum Bell, according to the Denver Post. "You can see that we've got two guys that can handle the ball," Shanahan said. "Both guys are going to play. Reuben will start. I feel very good about our situation."

Reuben Droughns lost two yards on his first carry on Sunday and didn't get many chances after that. He finished with 27 yards on four carries, but Tatum Bell took over as the primary back on the second series. If Bell is over his shoulder injury, Droughns may not get much work the rest of the year.

An MRI on the pinched nerve in the neck of Reuben Droughns yesterday revealed no major problems, according to the Denver Post. Coach Mike Shanahan said Droughns remains the No. 1 back, though Tatum Bell will be used extensively if able to play through a shoulder injury.

Reuben Droughns fumbled twice in his first four carries on Sunday. He was then pulled in favor of rookie Tatum Bell, who ripped off 123 yards and two TDs on 17 carries. Bell left the game late in the third quarter with a sprained shoulder, however, opening the door for Droughns to carry 14 times late in the game. Droughns finished with 18 carries for 62 yards. There's already concern that Bell will miss the rest of the season, which is good news for Droughns considering it looked like he was about to lose his job.

Reuben Droughns failed to top 100 yards in a start for the first time this season. He finished Sunday's game with just 15 carries for 49 yards, though he added 63 yards through the air on six receptions.

Reuben Droughns followed up his 193-yard effort of last week with a 176-yard game in Week 6. Droughns carried the ball 37 times and scored the first rushing touchdown of his career. Clearly, he will remain the starting tailback for the Broncos.

Reuben Droughns will be the starting running back for the Broncos today against the Raiders, according to ESPN's Chris Mortenson. Quentin Griffin will play a complementary role.
October 14, 2004
Broncos coach Mike Shanahan isn't being very helpful to fantasy owners, as he refuses to say whether Reuben Droughns or Quentin Griffin will get the bulk of carries on Sunday, according to the Denver Post. "They'll both get a chance to play, that's for sure," he said.
October 11, 2004
Even though Reuben Droughns broke out yesterday with 193 yards rushing, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was not ready to dub the running back the full-time starter, according to the Denver Post. However, there certainly will be calls to do just that this week.
October 10, 2004
The Broncos may have found the answer to their running game in an unexpected spot in Week 5. Reuben Droughns started in place of the injured Quentin Griffin and rushed for 193 yards on 30 carries. Droughns is normally a fullback for the Broncos, but he broke into the NFL as a tailback with the Lions.

Reuben Droughns is the starting tailback for the Broncos today with Quentin Griffin inactive. Garrison Hearst and Tatum Bell should also get carries.
