Laveranues Coles (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, ending his season. Brad Smith and Justin McCareins figure to see more work with Coles out, in addition to tight end Chris Baker.
December 20, 2007
Laveranues Coles indicated his desire to play on Sunday despite a gimpy ankle that kept him out of all but one play in Week 15. "Any time that you have an opportunity to go out and play, you want to because you never know when it will come to an end," he told Newsday. Coles re-injured the high ankle sprain that has limited him for over a month last Saturday and pulled himself from the game after just one play in Week 15. Even if he plays, the possibility of a similar scenario means he's an extremely risky fantasy option.
December 18, 2007
Laveranues Coles , whose high-ankle sprain allowed him to play just one snap in Week 15, could be headed to injured reserve. According to Newsday, the Jets might consider such a move after Coles re-injured the ankle in a freak accident at the team's hotel last Saturday.
December 17, 2007
Laveranues Coles was only able to take part in one play Sunday. It turns out that he aggravated his high-ankle sprain in a mishap at the Giants' hotel on Saturday night, according to the New York Daily News. He talked the medical staff into letting him play during pregame warmups. "But once I got out there, I just couldn't do it," he said. Obviously, this makes him a very risky play even if he suits up for Week 16.

The other injured receiver in the Big Apple is Laveranues Coles , who has been noticeable hobbled in the locker room and during practice this week with an injured left ankle. Coles is listed as questionable for this week’s game against the Browns.
December 6, 2007
Laveranues Coles (ankle) is considered questionable again this week, and he's been noticeably hobbling at the last two days of practice. Nonetheless he's got a history of playing through injuries, and we think he'll probably go against the Browns Sunday. We'll see what the final full workout of the week shows us.
December 2, 2007
Laveranues Coles is active and will start for the Jets on Sunday. Coles was able to practice on a limited basis during the week, but his ankle has apparently healed enough so that he can at least give it a go on Sunday. The Jets will lean heavily on Coles with Jerricho Cotchery sitting this one out after undergoing finger surgery earlier in the week.
December 1, 2007
Laveranues Coles jogged through a limited part of practice on Friday, while testing out his sprained ankle. He's listed as questionable but should play Sunday, according to the New York Daily News. However, it's a high-ankle sprain, so there will be a risk of aggravating the injury if he does suit up.
November 29, 2007
Laveranues Coles had another limited practice Thursday, though he's apparently got a good chance to play at Miami. He's coming back from a tender ankle injury.
November 29, 2007

November 22, 2007
Jets wideout Laveranues Coles is inactive this Thanksgiving because of his ankle injury. It is a high ankle sprain for Coles, which is worrisome, but he'll get 10 days off before the Jets next game.
November 21, 2007
Laveranues Coles was limited Tuesday and isn't expected to play at Dallas Thursday due to his ankle injury. Brad Smith and Justin McCareins will see more time as a result, but the key for Kellen Clemens is to find ways to get the ball to Jerricho Cotchery (who had just one catch last week).
November 20, 2007
Laveranues Coles , diagnosed with a sprained left ankle on Monday, was able to participate in a non-contact practice but is unlikely to play on Thursday against the Cowboys, reports Newsday. Some reports have indicated that the injury is a high ankle sprain, which can often take several weeks to heal. With the shortened week for the Jets, Coles is a long-shot to suit up and play on Turkey Day. Justin McCareins would likely start in his place.
November 16, 2007
Laveranues Coles has been practicing all week and should be good to go in Week 11, reports the New York Daily News. Coles missed the Jets' Week 9 game with a concussion. The bye week came at a perfect time for Coles, but the Steelers and their No. 1-rated pass defense should keep the headaches coming in Week 11.
November 5, 2007
Jets wide receiver Laveranues Coles missed Sunday’s game against the Redskins due to a concussion, but has been cleared to practice this week. Coles had a streak of 107 straight games played, which was the longest active streak by a wide receiver.

November 1, 2007
Laveranues Coles missed another practice Thursday and his status is very iffy for Sunday's game with Washington. He's coming off a concussion late in Week 8's loss to the Bills. Brad Smith and Justin McCareins will see extra playing time if Coles can't go on game day.
October 31, 2007
Wide receiver Laveranues Coles suffered a concussion in the Jets loss to Buffalo last week, and has yet to practice this week. Coach Eric Mangini addressed the injury during a conference call with Redskins beat writers, but failed to mention the injury to Jets beat writers in earlier news conferences. Coles is questionable at best for Sunday’s game against Washington.
October 29, 2007
Laveranues Coles was unable to complete Sunday's game. The wide receiver was forced out during the fourth quarter after he was body-slammed while making a catch, according to the New York Daily News. When asked if Coles just had the wind knocked out of him, he said, "I got everything knocked out of me." It's not clear if Coles sustained any significant injuries on that play, but he didn't return to the game.
October 14, 2007

October 10, 2007
Laveranues Coles was listed as having limited participation in the Jets' Wednesday practice. According to the team's official injury report, he has some sort of knee injury. Laveranues is legendary for playing through bumps and bruises, so don't expect this to hamper him on Sunday against the Eagles.
August 21, 2007
Laveranues Coles spoke about his long-term future on Tuesday. "Being in this system, it's a little tougher than most systems I've been in," Coles told Newsday. Other systems, I feel I would have more longevity and it wouldn't appear to be as tough on my body. Being in this system, there's a lot of wear and tear, the long practices, the long days. It is what it is. You have to put the grind in."
January 10, 2007
Laveranues Coles has hinted that retirement may be on the horizon, according to Newsday. "Physically, I don't think I can do another one of his camps," said Coles, who has been the most outspoken critic of first-year coach Eric Mangini's arduous work schedule. "I've thought about that all year. Man, will I be able to make it through another one of these camps? I guess we'll see. I'm not looking forward to it." He went on to say: "This system is built to work hard and it basically tears you down," he said. "At this point I'm starting to realize, with the way I'm feeling, that I'm getting pretty close to the end."
January 5, 2007
Although Laveranues Coles is listed as questionable with a jaw injury and didn't practice in full Thursday, the Jets still expect him to start Sunday at New England. Coles has played hurt for most of the year - and for much of his career, in fact - and with that it's hard to envision him not answering the bell here. A bigger test figures to be the New England secondary, which for the most part has been excellent against No. 1 receivers (though Coles did make a big play on them in the first meeting this year).
