Player Notes
December 29, 2006
Thomas Jones was able to practice Thursday and remains probable for Sunday's game with Green Bay, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Given that the Bears have no incentive in this game - they've already locked up the No. 1 seed in the NFC - it's very hard to imagine that the team would risk Jones for any significant length of time in a game that's meaningless to them.
December 28, 2006
Thomas Jones was held out of Wednesday's practice, though he's listed as probable, according to the Chicago Tribune. Jones played through a rib injury last week but is listed with an ankle injury for Week 17.

Although Thomas Jones was able to work with the Bears Thursday, he's still considered questionable for Sunday's game at Detroit due to his sore ribs, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. No matter how much Jones is ready to do this weekend, it seems inevitable that Cedric Benson will be carrying a healthy share of the load. Start Jones at your own risk.

December 17, 2006
Thomas Jones carried 17 times for 68 yards and a touchdown on Sunday while playing through an ankle injury. As expected, the Bears were careful not to overwork him, and Cedric Benson carried 15 times for 53 yards and a TD.

Thomas Jones is in the starting lineup for the Bears despite his sore ankle. However, there's a good chance that the Bears will limit his work and give Cedric Benson plenty of carries.

December 15, 2006

December 13, 2006
Thomas Jones is listed as questionable for Week 15 because of an ankle injury. The Bears did not practice on Wednesday, so more about Jones' status should be known after Thursday's practice. If Jones is unable to go, Cedric Benson will get the start.
December 13, 2006
Thomas Jones had only 11 carries for 76 yards last week, while backup Cedric Benson had 16 carries for 64 yards, according to the Sun-Times. When asked whether the two backs would split carries evenly this week, Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner said, "I don't know. It probably depends on the game and how it is going and who gets hot. Thomas was running well and doing a good job, too. We'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, we can get them both a lot of carries."

October 26, 2006
The Bears plan to get Cedric Benson more work in the future. Thomas Jones will remain the starting back, but he could get a few fewer touches than he's used to, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
October 8, 2006
Thomas Jones had his best game of the season in Week 5, rushing for 109 yards on 22 carries. Jones watched Cedric Benson get two short touchdowns, but this is not a situation where Benson is the new goal-line back. Benson was simply rotating into the game, and the Bears happened to have goal-line situations during Benson's series.
September 10, 2006
Thomas Jones rushed for 63 yards on 21 carries in Week 1 for the Bears. Cedric Benson rushed for 34 yards on 11 carries, but all of Benson's work came after the outcome was already decided. Jones is clearly the No. 1 runner for the Bears right now.
September 3, 2006
Not surprisingly, coach Lovie Smith named Thomas Jones the Bears' starting running back, according to the AP. "We have three good running backs. We'll let that all sort out on who plays what," Smith said. "I'll just say that Thomas Jones is our starter. We're excited about that and we'll go from there."
August 23, 2006
After missing the first two preseason games with a strained hamstring, Thomas Jones will start on Friday against the Cardinals, according to the AP. "He feels good," said head coach Lovie Smith. "He doesn't think he'll be (limited). We don't think he'll be, but we know he's coming off an injury and will keep that under consideration. But we think he should be fine and ready to go."

Thomas Jones returned to practice for the Bears on Wednesday, according to ChicagoBears.com. July 27, 2006
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Thomas Jones will begin training camp running with the second team as the Bears continue to punish players who didn't participate in supposedly voluntary offseason activities. Nonetheless, the current pecking order has little to do with how the team will line up at the start of the season, and Jones is still expected to be the starter over sophomore Cedric Benson when the season begins.
June 4, 2006
Head coach Lovie Smith demoted Thomas Jones to second string after Jones did not show up to the "optional" mini-camp in April. There is a lot of trade talk surrounding Jones, who ran for 1,335 yards last season.
April 28, 2006
The Bears have received underwhelming trade offers for Thomas Jones but aren't seeking to trade him, according to the Chicago Tribune. Jones is believed to be tired of looking over his shoulder at Cedric Benson, last year's first-round pick. Plus, Benson makes more money than Jones, who gained a career-high 1,335 yards last season.
April 23, 2006
The agent for Thomas Jones said his client wants to be traded, and the Bears apparently have entertained an offer from the Colts, according to the Sun-Times. The Colts have offered only a late third-round draft pick for Jones, but considering the infamous Drew Rosenhaus is Jones' agent, just about anything could happen here. If Jones leaves, second-year running back Cedric Benson likely would take over as the starter.
