The Pats placed Sammy Morris on injured reserve Friday, formally ending his season in the process. You don't often get black-and-white information regarding injuries from the Patriots, but in this case we know that Morris will not return from his chest injury this season. This is good news for those who own Laurence Maroney, as Morris won't be around to pilfer carries and touchdowns in the second half of the season. Kevin Faulk will continue to see added work, though.

Sammy Morris did not participate in the Patriots' Wednesday practice, reports the Boston Globe. Morris was expected to miss up to a month when he first injured his chest in Week 6, so this doesn't come as much of a surprise. Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk figure to shoulder the load again in Week 9 against the Colts in what will probably be the greatest NFL football game ever played (if not the greatest sports contest of any kind, or for that matter the most exciting three-hour period of time the world has ever known).

Sammy Morris (chest) is expected to be out until at least New England's bye Nov. 10, and potentially longer than that, the Boston Globe reports.
October 17, 2007
Sammy Morris injured a bone in his chest during a freak collision Sunday and could miss a month, a league source told the Boston Herald. Morris has already been ruled out for Sunday's game with Miami.
October 14, 2007
Sammy Morris went to the locker room in the third quarter on Sunday, and he is unlikely to return to the game due to a chest injury.
October 14, 2007
Sammy Morris is seeking his third straight 100-yard game at Dallas Sunday, and according to the Boston Herald, he won't have Laurence Maroney in his way. The paper is reporting that Maroney (groin) will not dress against the Cowboys.

Sammy Morris was a capable fill-in for the Patriots Monday, carrying 21 times for 117 yards and a touchdown at Cincinnati. He also caught a pair of passes for 15 yards. It's the fourth straight game Morris has logged double-digit carries in; the first three came with Laurence Maroney, this effort without him.

Laurence Maroney put together his first 100-yard rushing performance of the year on Sunday, but Sammy Morris once again figured heavily into the workload, carrying 12 times for 46 yards and a touchdown. Morris' score came from four yards out, which is yet another indication that the Pats view him as their goal-line back. Morris has received double-digit carries in all three games this year and should be owned in all leagues.

Sammy Morris would relish the opportunity to serve as the Patriots goal line running back, should such a chance present itself. "We haven't talked about the goal line yet, but for any running back, the three-, two-yard line is a different mentality," Morris told the Boston Herald. "I embrace those kind of things and I like that aspect of the game. It's a different mentality and it's downhill as opposed to side-to-side, and I'd like to think I'd fit that role well." Despite these comments by Morris, nothing has been said or done by the Patriots to indicate that Laurence Maroney won't be the primary ballcarrier in all situations

Running back Sammy Morris has been wearing a red no-contact jersey during minicamp thus far. Though the exact nature of his injury has not been disclosed, the Boston Globe reports that the move is precautionary after Morris underwent shoulder surgery earlier this offseason. Morris has been able to participate in all of the team’s drills despite the injury.

Sammy Morris reached a contract agreement with the Patriots over the weekend, according to the Boston Globe. He'll help fill the void in New England's backfield left by Corey Dillon, who was released last week.
