Laveranues Coles missed practice on Wednesday with a concussion and Newsday reports that he is unlikely to play in Week 9, which would give Justin McCareins a chance to start on Sunday. McCareins played very well in the preseason working with Kellen Clemens, the Jets new starting quarterback, but he dropped a couple of balls on crucial plays during the Jets' Week 2 loss to the Ravens (with Clemens at the helm). McCareins would be an option only if you are absolutely desperate this week.

Starters Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery have worked almost exclusively with Chad Pennington so far this season, but third receiver Justin McCareins already has developed a nice rapport with Week 2 starter Kellen Clemens. McCareins caught five passes for 140 yards and a touchdown from Clemens during preseason action and could be more involved this week as a deep threat. "He's easy to throw to," Clemens told Newsday of McCareins. "You just drop back and throw it as far as you can and he gets it."

Justin McCareins s due to make about $3 million in 2007, more than the Jets likely want to pay for a third or fourth receiver who isn't a major special teams contributor, the New York Post reports.
