Clinton Portis (stomach flu) was back at practice Thursday after sitting the previous day. He probably won't find a lot of running room at Minnesota Sunday night, but look for him to get his normal workload.

Clinton Portis left Sunday's game against Buffalo late in the fourth quarter with an apparent ankle injury. He carried 25 times for 50 yards and a score prior to his departure. The severity of the injury is unclear at this point, but the ailment could come into play, as the Redskins have a short week in Week 14, playing the Bears on Thursday.

The news is not as positive for wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, who is questionable due to a lingering hamstring injury. Fullback Mike Sellers (back) and wide receiver James Thrash (ankle) will be out.

Clinton Portis put together his first 100-yard rushing effort of the year on Sunday against the Jets, running for 196 yards and a touchdown on 36 carries. Portis had not tallied more than 72 rushing yards since Week 1, so this performance is a relief for owners who had begun souring on the tailback. He's currently on pace for 1,259 rushing yards and 12 TDs.

Clinton Portis spent the offseason rehabbing shoulder and hand surgeries and dealing with knee tendinitis. He did not play during the preseason. Because of all the time off, Portis tells the Washington Post on Thursday, "I do feel like I'm finally getting back in football shape." He is averaging 4.2 yards-per-carry and ranks 21st in the NFL with 363 rushing yards.

Clinton Portis was limited but did take part in individual drills and some team work on Wednesday. "Clinton will be fine," head coach Joe Gibbs tells the team's official web site. "I feel good that it's not tendonitis, which I was worried it had flared up and could go weeks and weeks. This, I think, is just a [bruise on a] different spot and I think we're okay there. I think he'll take more [practice] as the week goes. It's not a sprain." Portis injured his right knee in Week 3. Previous reports ruled out tendinitis but did call it a sprain.

Clinton Portis is not currently dealing with knee tendinitis, as coach Joe Gibbs said on Monday. Portis has a bruise and a Grade-1 sprain of his right knee, director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer informs the Washington Post. The running back is day-to-day, and Tyer believes Portis will play in Week 5.

As expected, Clinton Portis was active and started Sunday's game. Also, as expected, he and Ladell Betts split the workload - literally - as each had 17 carries. However, Portis proved not only that he was in good shape after missing the whole preseason with a sore knee, but also that he's more talented than Betts. Portis scored a touchdown and averaged 5.8 yards for 98 total rushing yards, while Betts averaged 3.5 for 59 and failed to score. Betts is going to continue to split the workload to some extent, at least until Portis proves he's healthy and able to stay that way.

Portis met with Dr. James Andrews over the weekend. "The report back to me was that they think [Portis's knee] is getting better for sure," Gibbs says. "They think we are doing the right things." Clinton Portis will not participate in this Saturday's scrimmage against the Baltimore Ravens. He is dealing with tendinitis in his right knee. "I keep on having setbacks, so right now I'm just trying to get strength back in it," Portis tells the team's official web site. "If we had a game today, I could play. I'm not injured [bad] or anything. My knee is not even swelling up. When I make a subtle movement on it or a cut or I stop on a dime, it flares up again."

Clinton Portis was able to take part in some light drills on Friday, while wearing a helmet and pads, according to the Washington Post. He wasn't supposed to work out at all during the Redskins' minicamp, so this looks like a good sign. He's recovering from hand and shoulder surgeries and will be one of the bigger risk/reward draft picks this season.

Clinton Portis won't participate in the June 15-17 minicamp, but he expects to be ready for training camp. Portis underwent surgery on November 13 to stabilize a broken bone in his right hand and another operation on December 5 to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He is also dealing with tendonitis in one of his knees. Director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer tells the Washington Post that Portis is progressing well. "I'll definitely be ready for training camp," Portis claims.

Clinton Portis apologized on Tuesday for comments he previously made about dogfighting. "A couple of weeks ago, when I made those comments I didn't understand the seriousness behind it," Portis tells the Washington Post. "I didn't know it would affect that many people, and didn't think what I said was that offensive. But after doing some research and seeing how serious people take this, I shouldn't have made the comments."

Most of the talk centered around Portis' recent, controversial words, but Gibbs added that he's not too worried about this running back's knee, according to the Washington Post. Portis is dealing with tendonitis. Gibbs says Portis will rest until the tendonitis is gone, and they are trying to get him ready for training camp.
