Ladell Betts had his fourth straight 100-yard rushing game on Sunday, as he carried 22 times for 119 yards. He also caught three passes for 43 yards. Betts needs just 67 yards in the final two games for his first 1,000-yard season.
December 10, 2006
Ladell Betts celebrated his new contract with the best game of his career Sunday, running for 171 yards on 33 carries. It is Betts' third straight 100-yard game.
December 9, 2006
Ladell Betts and the Redskins have agreed to a five-year contract extension, according to the Washington Post. The contract apparently will guarantee him $5.5 million plus a $3.5 million signing bonus. Betts, who could have been a free agent at season's end, will continue backing up Clinton Portis, though he hopes for an expanded role. "From my understanding from my conversations with the coach and everybody else within the organization, my role will be a large role going here forward," he said. "It won't be carrying the full load, but I'll have to carry the ball and play my part in this offense and that's something I've had no problem doing over the last couple of years. And I believe the Redskins stepped to the plate and gave me an offer I felt comfortable with."
December 5, 2006
The Redskins would like to sign Ladell Betts to an extension before he hits the free agent market after the year, according to the Washington Post. "Hopefully, what we'll be able to do is get him signed," coach Joe Gibbs said. "It's important to us to get it done." Betts is coming off of two straight 100-yard games.
December 3, 2006
Ladell Betts had his second straight 100-yard game Sunday, rushing for 155 yards and a TD on 28 carries. He also caught three balls for 18 yards.
November 19, 2006
Ladell Betts ran the ball poorly in his first start Sunday filling in for the injured Clinton Portis. Betts gained just 18 yards on seven carries and lost a fumble. He salvaged his day somewhat by catching five passes for 48 yards. T.J. Duckett led the Redskins with 26 yards on five carries.
November 12, 2006
Ladell Betts rushed for 83 yards on 20 carries on Sunday against the Eagles. Betts saw increased work after Clinton Portis suffered a broken hand, and Betts could take over as the starter while Portis is out with the injury.
September 24, 2006
Clinton Portis played, but it was Ladell Betts who led the Redskins with 124 rushing yards (on 16 carries) Sunday. Betts also scored a touchdown.
September 17, 2006
Ladell Betts started in place of the Redskins again in Week 2. Betts rushed for 40 yards on 11 carries and caught seven passes for 57 yards.
September 15, 2006
Ladell Betts could be looking at another start this week as Clinton Portis (shoulder) hasn't done a lot in practice. Joe Gibbs suggested to the Redskins official website Friday that he wasn't optimistic about Portis playing at Dallas.
September 11, 2006
Ladell Betts got the start over Clinton Portis on Monday, but Portis was the one who saw more carries. Betts carried eight times for 22 yards while Portis picked up 39 yards and a score on 10 carries.
September 9, 2006
Ladell Betts is still slated to start on Monday night, but Clinton Portis has been upgraded to probable and could play. Given recent developments, it wouldn't be a surprise if Portis out-played Betts, so fantasy owners have a tough Week 1 decision to make.
September 8, 2006
With Clinton Portis looking more and more unlikely to play Monday, Ladell Betts will probably get the start for the Redskins. T.J. Duckett would also be in the mix as a short-yardage specialist and change-of-pace option.
September 6, 2006
If Clinton Portis is unable to go in the regular-season opener, Ladell Betts will start at running back for the Redskins, according to the AP. Betts is talented enough to produce, but recent acquisition T.J. Duckett could end up the goal-line option.
August 14, 2006
Ladell Betts was held out of the Redskins' preseason opener to rest a tight hamstring, according to the Washington Post. His value took a huge boost, though, because starting running back Clinton Portis partially dislocated a shoulder in the game. The injury will sideline Portis for the rest of the preseason. Betts should see the bulk of action in the backfield if Portis were to miss any regular-season action.
