Disgruntled tight end Chris Baker boycotted the New York Jets voluntary practices in May but is expected to show up for mandatory minicamp in June, according to USA Today. Baker, unhappy with his salary, is coming off a career-high 41 receptions in 2007, and he’s scheduled to make $683,500 this season and $2.1 million next season. "I'm angry about the fact that they said, 'We're going to do something for you,' and nothing's being done," Baker said. "It doesn't make any sense. I've been here six years and I've always done what they've asked me to do." The Jets moved up in the first round to select Purdue rookie tight end Dustin Keller, and signed veteran Bubba Franks during the offseason.

Chris Baker is upset that the team selected Purdue tight end Dustin Keller in the first round of the draft, according to the NY Post. Baker said that he wants to remain a member of the Jets for the rest of his career, but finds it hard to believe the team wants him here based on the way he's being treated. The team also recently added Bubba Franks to their arsenal at tight end, and Baker could end up being the third highest paid tight end on the team if his contract isn't renegotiated. Baker stated that he always did what the Jets asked him to do, and he is coming off the best year of his career as he hauled in 41 passes for 409 yards and three touchdowns.

New York Jets tight end Chris Baker, disgruntled with his contract status and management's apparent refusal to renegotiate, has left the team's offseason strength and conditioning program in protest, according to FOX Sports. Baker, fresh off the best season of his career, caught 41 passes last season and became more of a focal point in the Jets' offense. He has two years remaining on his $6.6 million contract.

Chris Baker will miss Sunday's game due to a back injury. Baker's agent, Cliff Brady, wasn't sure how long Baker would miss any additional games. "I'm not a doctor," Brady said in the AP. "So, I'd rather not speculate."

Chris Baker would relish the opportunity to catch more passes, but he's content to make plays on the rare occasions when he's a part of the passing game. "Honestly, I would love the ball more," Baker told Newsday after catching his second touchdown of the season in Week 3. "But it's one of those things where I just have to roll with it and whenever something comes my way, make the play." Baker has scored on two of his four catches this year, but isn't active enough in the offense to be considered a fantasy factor.
