Chris Baker didn't participate in the Jets' voluntary workouts on Monday, according to the NY Daily News. The sessions run through mid-June. Baker is boycotting the offseason program because he feels the Jets reneged on a promise to renegotiate his contract. Baker is entering the third year of a four-year, $6.6 million contract. He is also upset that newly acquired tight end Bubba Franks is making the same amount as him on a one-year deal. Even worse, Baker will make less than first-round rookie Dustin Keller.

Disgruntled tight end Chris Baker boycotted the New York Jets voluntary practices in May but is expected to show up for mandatory minicamp in June, according to USA Today. Baker, unhappy with his salary, is coming off a career-high 41 receptions in 2007, and he’s scheduled to make $683,500 this season and $2.1 million next season. "I'm angry about the fact that they said, 'We're going to do something for you,' and nothing's being done," Baker said. "It doesn't make any sense. I've been here six years and I've always done what they've asked me to do." The Jets moved up in the first round to select Purdue rookie tight end Dustin Keller, and signed veteran Bubba Franks during the offseason.

Chris Baker is upset that the team selected Purdue tight end Dustin Keller in the first round of the draft, according to the NY Post. Baker said that he wants to remain a member of the Jets for the rest of his career, but finds it hard to believe the team wants him here based on the way he's being treated. The team also recently added Bubba Franks to their arsenal at tight end, and Baker could end up being the third highest paid tight end on the team if his contract isn't renegotiated. Baker stated that he always did what the Jets asked him to do, and he is coming off the best year of his career as he hauled in 41 passes for 409 yards and three touchdowns.

Baker, fresh off the best season of his career, caught 41 passes last season and became more of a focal point in the Jets' offense. He has two years remaining on his $6.6 million contract.
