Along with a broken right leg, Rams tight end Randy McMichael has torn ligaments in the leg, which is why he will be out for the season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Randy McMichael has been placed on the season-ending IR, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He suffered a broken bone in his lower right leg September 28 against the Bills. Tight end Daniel Fells takes McMichael’s place on the roster.

Coach Jim Haslett stated that the team is considering placing Randy McMichael on season-ending IR due to his broken tibia, according to the Belleville News-Democrat. Haslett said, "It’ll be a minimum of eight weeks, hopefully not longer. Normally, that’s six-week injury, but he has a couple of other things. We want to make sure we don’t put him on the field too early. It could be something that we can wait on, or we could put him on IR. I want to talk to Randy first to see how he feels."

Rams offensive coordinator Al Saunders is excited about what tight end Randy McMichael could do in the offense, reports Mike Sando of ESPN.com. "Randy McMichael has been spectacular this training camp, and I would expect him to have a very, very, very profound impact on our offense," Saunders said.

Randy McMichael is pleased to be targeted again in the Rams' aerial attack, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He was an afterthought in the Rams' offense last season as he only caught 39 passes, but he is now grinning from ear to ear while under the direction of new offensive coordinator Al Saunders, whose playbook made Chiefs' tight end Tony Gonzalez a future Hall of Famer and produced a Pro Bowl tight end eight consecutive seasons (seven by Gonzalez and one by Chris Cooley of Washington). Saunders views tight ends as receivers with a little extra girth, and McMichael said, "Man, I'm just having a good time."

Randy McMichael is pleased to have new OC Al Saunders in St. Louis, as Saunders has directed a tight end to the Pro Bowl for eight straight seasons, according to the Belleville News-Democrat. McMichael said, "As soon as I found what was going on and they had hired Coach Saunders, I got really excited. This is the kind of offense that I have dreamed my whole career of playing in. I'm having a good time right now, and hopefully I can extend my role and keep doing the things I like to do."
