Veteran free safety Ryan Clark is expected to return to full health after having his spleen removed during the middle of last season, and should easily reclaim his starting position, according to the Sporting News. Clark plays the position with more patience than Anthony Smith and even though he is an aggressive hitter, rarely lets a player get behind him in deep coverage. Clark was sorely missed in the Steelers’ defensive backfield last season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed starting free safety Ryan Clark on injured reserve on Wednesday. Clark has been battling an inflamed spleen that has sidelined him for the last month. Anthony Smith will take Clark’s spot in the lineup.
