Apparently, Charles Rogers failed to comply with the terms of the NFL's drug policy after failing a previous test in 2005, according to the Detroit News. He could have faced up to a one-year suspension, but the Lions and the NFLPA negotiated a lesser penalty, which would have left him active the first four games, but he would have received no pay. The Lions ended up cutting him before the season, so it didn't matter. However, clearly another problem with the policy would keep him out for an extended period of time, which will only make it harder for Rogers to catch on with another team. He currently remains unsigned.

Dolphins coach Nick Saban didn't dismiss the idea that the Dolphins would work out Charles Rogers, who was recently released by the Lions, according to the Detroit News. "I know he worked very, very hard to get back from his first collarbone or shoulder injury, then [injured the collarbone] again," Saban said. "Things just haven't worked out for him there... He has a lot of ability."

Charles Rogers has recovered enough from his knee injury that Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz said the receiver will see "extensive" action in the preseason finale, according to the Detroit News. "I'd like to see him make some big plays," Martz said. "We want to get him in there and see what he can do." It could be his swan-song performance if he doesn't impress.

Charles Rogers was limited to riding a stationary bike in practice on Wednesday and will not play this weekend, according to the Detroit News. He's also doubtful for the preseason finale because of a bone bruise on his left knee. At this point, Rogers is almost certain to be traded or cut.

Lions GM Matt Millen said that Charles Rogers made great strides in the offseason, according to the Detroit Free Press. "He was catching everything with his hands. He was running excellent routes. Charles Rogers was running with the third team in practice on Wednesday, even though Mike Williams and Scottie Vines were both out with injuries, according to MLive.com. Head coach Rod Marinelli said that the positions were meaningless, but this can't be seen as a good sign for Rogers.
