The Cowboys received bad news today on the extent of Terence Newman's injury. MRI results showed that Newman might have a sports hernia, according to ESPN.com. The Cowboys have forwarded the results to Philadelphia for more tests. A Cowboys source said Newman would have the surgery immediately if the sports hernia injury is confirmed and would be out a minimum of six weeks.

"I would like to stay here in Dallas, but I don’t need the money," Newman said. "I definitely want to be recognized as one of the top corners. I just want to be paid as one of the top corners.’’ Newman, who made the Pro Bowl for the first time last year, posted 62 tackles, 15 pass deflections and five interceptions. Newman has obviously been paying attention to the recent mega-deals doled out to some of the other top corners in the league. He is scheduled to make $865,647 in 2008.
