The Colts placed the franchise tag on Dallas Clark yesterday. Today, they signed him to a six-year contract extension. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but the deal is believed to have made Clark one of the league's highest-paid tight ends, according to the AP. Clark had a big 2007 season, setting career highs with 58 catches, 616 yards and 11 touchdowns. He'll be a bit long in the tooth by the time this new deal expires, but Clark should continue to be one of the most productive tight ends in the league over the next few years.

Talks were ongoing with Clark this past week, but with no deal in sight, the Colts designated their 2007 second leading receiver. The one-year franchise tender for a tight end is $4.522 million and if any team chose to sign Clark, that organization would have to surrender two first-round draft choices.
