Larry Johnson may not be the only star RB in the Chiefs backfield in 2008 if the team ends up selecting Darren McFadden in the draft, according to a report on Yahoo. “He’s a game-changing talent,” said Kansas City president Carl Peterson. “He helped himself a lot today … if he’s at No. 5 overall, I’m going to have to consider him long and hard. … And I have a great running back [Larry Johnson].” At this point we have no idea why Peterson made this comment. Is it because McFadden was so spectacular that he felt compelled to? It is because Larry Johnson is still bothered by the mysterious foot injury that wiped out the second half of his 2007 season? Is it because he wants to drum up a trading partner for the team's pick? Stay tuned but this news doesn't exactly give us the warm and fuzzies about LJ's future.

Someone from the Chiefs organization finally confirmed Larry Johnson's injury. It only took about three months. The running back came out on Wednesday and tells the Kansas City Star, "The bone in my fourth toe by the joint had a slight crack in it, and it shifted a little bit." Johnson suffered the injury on November 4 and did not play again. "When I kept trying to come back, I was pushing it too hard where I was always going to have pain," Johnson adds. "I think letting it rest a little bit is going to get back to 100 percent like it is.”

Chiefs president and general manager Carl Peterson confirmed on Thursday that he has no plans to trade either running back Larry Johnson or tight end Tony Gonzalez this offseason. "Once you make a commitment to a player as we did this year to a Tony Gonzalez and a Larry Johnson for multiple years for guaranteed dollars there is literally no way you trade them in the second year. The cap acceleration would destroy you," Peterson explains to the team's official web site.
