December 20, 2007
Larry Johnson (foot) stepped up his workload on Wednesday but still might not be able to return in Week 16. "A couple of reps here and there, and that’s what he kind of took today. He was very limited today though, very limited," head coach Herm Edwards tells the team's official web site. "I’d say that he’s questionable, probably." Kolby Smith has been starting in his place.
December 19, 2007
Larry Johnson (foot) could return this Sunday, provided he makes it through practice. "I think the more he goes through individual things and more strenuous situations, through the whole week, we’ll see if he has soreness after every day," head coach Herm Edwards tells the Kansas City Star. "He’s gone through one or two days. He’s never gone the whole week. We’ll have to find out where that’s at... We don’t have to make that right now. It’ll be more than he’s done in previous (practices). He’s done individual (work) for the most part. He feels a lot better than he felt four weeks ago." Kolby Smith has been starting in his place.
December 11, 2007

December 6, 2007

Larry Johnson jogged and tested his injured right foot on Wednesday. "He jogged around today on it and came up to me and had a big smile on his face," head coach Herm Edwards tells the team's official web site. "He looked good. So, we’ll see where he’s at. Now, he didn’t participate with the team, but he jogged around.” Johnson is out for Week 13, but Edwards did not rule out a return in Week 14. Kolby Smith will start this Sunday.
November 28, 2007
Larry Johnson is expected to miss his fourth straight game due to an injured right foot, the Kansas City Star reports. Kolby Smith would start if Johnson were out.
November 16, 2007
Larry Johnson spoke on Thursday and said he will return this season despite an injured right foot. “A lot of people don’t realize that my foot was swollen bad and I was on crutches for maybe two or three days,” Johnson tells the Kansas City Star. “This is only the (second) week and I’m able to walk fine without using a boot." The Chiefs have not revealed details about the injury, but LJ told teammates that he cracked a bone. Priest Holmes is starting in his place.
November 13, 2007
Chiefs president and general manager Carl Peterson issued a statement on Tuesday saying that Larry Johnson will not play in Week 11 due to his right mid-foot sprain, the team's official web site reports. Priest Holmes will presumably start in his place.
November 9, 2007
Despite improving throughout the week, Larry Johnson has been listed as “out” for Sunday’s game against the Broncos. Johnson suffered what has been called a “mild foot sprain,” but unconfirmed reports have surfaced stating that Johnson has a broken foot, or that he may not play again this season.
November 8, 2007
There have been some reports circulating that Larry Johnson's foot injury would force him to miss the rest of the season. However, the Chiefs issued a statement Thursday stating that LJ is showing "significant" improvement, according to SportsTicker. "Larry has made significant improvement with less swelling and pain in his injured right foot," the statement said. "His status will be re-evaluated again early next week with further exams." Johnson will still be sidelined in Week 10, but hopefully he'll be able to return soon. Priest Holmes and Kolby Smith will handle the load for the time being.
November 8, 2007
Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards confirmed on Wednesday that Larry Johnson would not play in Week 10 due to a right mid-foot sprain. “What I’ve been told... from our doctors is that his foot is still (swollen) and they’re still trying to look at it to find out exactly where he’s at,” Edwards tells the Kansas City Star. “All I know is what I just told you." Priest Holmes will start in his place, and rookie Kolby Smith will also see some of the action.
November 6, 2007
Fox 31 out of Denver is reporting that Larry Johnson will miss the rest of the season with a broken foot. The Chiefs aren't confirming this as of Tuesday night. We'll see what the team learns on Johnson Wednesday, though this much is known - LJ isn't expected to play this week against Denver, at minimum, which means Priest Holmes and Kolby Smith get a major spike in value.
November 6, 2007
Larry Johnson will likely be out when the club hosts the Broncos in Week 10. “It will be difficult for him to play this week,” head coach Herm Edwards tells the Kansas City Star. Johnson suffered a right mid-foot sprain on Sunday. Priest Holmes will likely start in his place, but he may split time with Kolby Smith.
November 5, 2007
Chiefs running back Larry Johnson suffered a mid-foot sprain in Sunday’s loss to Green Bay, and he spent most of Monday undergoing treatment and tests with medical staff. Coach Herm Edwards said that they weren’t sure of the severity and “if he’s going to be out, and if so, how long.”
November 5, 2007
Larry Johnson was forced out of Sunday's game with an ankle injury. He left the locker room on crutches, and coach Herm Edwards was pessimistic about the chances of LJ playing in Week 10, according to the KC Star. "He couldn’t put any weight on his foot coming off the field," Edwards said. "That’s never good. We’ll just wait until the week progresses and see what happens." If LJ can't play, the Chiefs would use a combination of Priest Holmes and rookie Kolby Smith; Holmes, who has hardly been on the field in two years, would be the featured back, while Smith, who hasn't carried the ball this season, should chip in.
November 4, 2007
Larry Johnson, who left Sunday's contest with an ankle injury, is scheduled to be re-examined on Monday, according to the AP. "Larry Johnson has a right foot injury and it's being X-rayed," coach Herman Edwards said. "We don't know the extent of it." We'll pass along the details as we get them, but if Johnson is forced to miss any time, Priest Holmes could step in as the featured back.

Larry Johnson put up his second 100-yard rushing performance on Sunday against the Bengals, and he scored his first TD of the year, an eight-yard run in the second quarter. September 29, 2007
The Chiefs got Larry Johnson back in practice on Friday. Coach Herm Edwards vowed that his star running back will start Sunday's game, according to the KC Star. He's battling a sore hamstring. While it sounds like he'll play, LJ will face a tough Chargers defense and there must be some concern about his ability to complete the game.
September 28, 2007
Larry Johnson missed practice for the second consecutive day Thursday and is now listed as questionable for Sunday's game in San Diego, the AP reports. Johnson is nursing what the team calls a slightly pulled hamstring. "It's not so bad where he can't run," head coach Herm Edwards said. "I mean it's sore, and what we don't want to do is obviously put him in a position where he really hurts his hamstring and guys have sore hamstrings at times and we are trying to rest him."
September 27, 2007
Larry Johnson did not practice on Wednesday. "He had a sore hamstring and he didn’t work today," head coach Herm Edwards tells the team's official web site. "No, I’m not concerned. He’s just sore. He should be okay." Fantasy owners shouldn't be too worried.
September 21, 2007
Larry Johnson practiced fully on Thursday after getting the day off on Wednesday, head coach Herm Edwards tells the team's official web site.
September 5, 2007
Larry Johnson won't open this season on a pace for 400 carries. Head coach Herm Edwards plans on limiting his workhorse, at least early on. “He’s going to be on a little bit of a leash early,” Edwards tells the Kansas City Star. “He has to get his legs underneath him. Michael Bennett is healthy, and that’s good. It gives us another runner. It’s not all on LJ... We’re protecting Larry. That’s important. But the kind of guy he is, after week four I know he’s going to come up to me and say, ‘I can carry it a few more times if you need me to.'"
August 30, 2007
Larry Johnson made his preseason debut on Thursday night. He rushed the ball three straight times for a total of 12 yards and then turned the drive over to Michael Bennett.
August 27, 2007
Larry Johnson wants to play in the preseason finale against the Rams on Thursday. "If it was up to me, I’d play the whole game,” Johnson tells the Kansas City Star. Head coach Herm Edwards has other ideas. “It will be real fast,” Edwards says. "Don't blink."
August 23, 2007
Larry Johnson believes it will take a few weeks into the regular season for him to find his rhythm. When asked about being up to full speed for the season opener, Johnson responds to the team's official web site, "It will take a little longer than that. Obviously Coach is going to do a great job of getting me on track to where in week two or week three of the season I’m going to hit my full stride. I’m going to try to pick it up as fast as I can because what I know about myself is that I’ve never been a fast starter coming out of the blocks in a season. It’s always been the last eight games is when I really turn it on. "
August 22, 2007
Chiefs fans and fantasy owners shouldn't expect to see Larry Johnson over the final two preseason games. He is working to get ready for the season opener against the Texans on September 9. “By no stretch of the imagination will he play this Thursday. He’ll be standing by me for the most part," head coach Herm Edwards tells the Kansas City Star. "It’s important he gets his legs up underneath him before we open up down in Houston. He’ll have enough time to do that. I think it will take him two weeks. He’s been working out. It’s not like he’s been sitting around.”
August 21, 2007
The Chiefs and Larry Johnson agreed to a contract extension on Tuesday, and the Pro Bowler joined the team for part of their practice session, the Kansas City Star reports. ESPN.com is saying that it is a five-year extension worth $45 million that will keep Johnson in Kansas City through 2012.
August 13, 2007

July 27, 2007
As expected, Larry Johnson did not report to River Falls for the first day of the Chiefs training camp Thursday. Johnson wants a contract extension, but the Chiefs haven't made a new contract offer to the running back in almost two months, according to the Kansas City Star. "We're very far apart, but I can't tell you exactly how far apart we are because we haven't received an offer from them since June 1," said Alvin Keels, Johnson's agent. The Chiefs said they are waiting for Keels to to make what they believe is a more reasonable proposal before they submit a new offer.
June 21, 2007
Larry Johnson intends to hold out if he doesn't receive a new contract before training camp begins, according to the Kansas City Star. "I've talked with Herm (Edwards) about it," Johnson replied. "Herm said he doesn't even know the money I'm asking for. He said he doesn't really care. He said I've done a lot in terms of OTAs (organized team activities) and minicamp to buy into the program. He said he'll talk with Carl and those things will get handled. It all depends on how the upstairs people play it." LJ is due $1.7 million this season. Even if he does hold out, the Chiefs will surely the get issue resolved before the start of the regular season, so his fantasy value shouldn't be negatively affected.
May 31, 2007
Coach Herm Edwards stated on Wednesday that he plans to get Larry Johnson more touches as a receiver in 2007. "That's the next step in his development as a running back in this league: His ability to come out of the backfield running routes," Edwards told the Kansas City Star. "We need to get the ball to our backs a little more than we did last year." Johnson caught 41 passes last year, and Edwards would like to see that number closer to 60 this season.
April 26, 2007
The Chiefs have denied a report that they have been shopping Larry Johnson before this weekend's draft, according to the AP. "Anybody who is reporting it's true is simply not telling the truth," team spokesman Bob Moore said. There's a lot of smoke-and-mirror banter heading into the draft, so only time will tell.
April 21, 2007
Besides Trent Green, and Dante Hall, the Chiefs also have offered Larry Johnson around in trade proposals as the draft approaches, according to the KC Star. The club has interviewed several running backs available in next weekend's draft, but realistically, trading L.J. seems highly unlikely.
January 7, 2007
Larry Johnson was held in check by the Colts Saturday, gaining just 32 yards on 13 carries. The Kansas City offense as a whole was terrible; the Chiefs didn't even make a first down until late in the third period. Johnson now can get some much-needed rest with Kansas City out of the playoffs; he carried the ball 429 times over 17 games this year, including a record of 416 in the regular season.
