The Texans released Domanick Williams on Friday, the AP reports. Williams - formerly known as Domanick Davis - missed the entire 2006 season with a knee injury.

Domanick Davis announced last month that he has legally changed his name to Domanick Williams. Under his new name, he will look to return from the knee injury that cost him all of the 2006 season.

The Texans placed Domanick Davis on injured reserve, formally ending his season. Davis has not been able to practice since early in training camp because of continued knee problems.

The AP reports that Domanick Davis will likely be placed on injured reserve, though the Texans haven't made a final decision yet. That would leave Wali Lundy, Vernand Morency and Chris Taylor as the team's running backs.

Domanick Davis will definitely not be available for the season opener, and it's possible that he could go on injured reserve. However, head coach Gary Kubiak refuted a report that Davis could be cut.
