Doug Gabriel is likely to be active for the Raiders on Sunday in his return to the team. According to the Contra Costa Times, head coach Art Shell said "He'll be a guy that can come in and run the offense if needed. I'm sure (receivers coach) Fred (Biletnikoff) will end up using him some in the game Sunday."

The Raiders reaquired Doug Gabriel on Wednesday after the Pats released him the day before, according to the Contra Costa Times. "Doug is insurance for us right now," Raiders coach Art Shell said. "That's where we are with that. I don't know if we'd have made that move if those guys all were healthy and ready to go." Randy Moss and Jerry Porter likely are out this weekend, so Gabriel could get some action.

The Patriots released Doug Gabriel Tuesday, according to Sports Ticker. Gabriel started five of 12 games for the Pats this year, but he had fallen out of favor with the coaching staff lately.

Doug Gabriel played sparingly Sunday and was held without a catch. Gabriel seems to have found his way into coach Bill Belichick's doghouse after a fumble last week.

Doug Gabriel didn't see the field after his second-quarter fumble Sunday against the Jets, the Boston Herald reports. Gabriel finished the game with two receptions for 30 yards, including the costly fumble which came on the heels of a 22-yard catch. Head coach Bill Belichick was predictably vague about Gabriel's absence. "We played all our receivers today," Belichick said. "We played them all."

Doug Gabriel was able to practice Friday and is considered probable for Sunday's game at Cincinnati. Keep an eye on Gabriel, who had six catches for 65 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter last week.

Doug Gabriel had a nice game for the Pats Sunday, catching six balls for 65 yards and a TD. Gabriel, who was acquired from Oakland just before the season, was inactive in Week 1 and held catchless in Week 2.
