The Packers are expected to send their linebackers on more blitzes this season, according to ESPN.com. Nick Barnett said, "We've got some things in our pocket. I don't want to give too much away on the packages we've been working on, but I'm really excited." AJ Hawk added, "Any linebacker will tell you he wants to blitz and he wants to make big plays. We've always been aggressive, just in different ways. With all the guys we have on our defense, it's going to be fun to see what the coaches come up with."

Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy said earlier this week that Nick Barnett would be the most likely member of the PackersÂ’ defense to wear the helmet with the newly approved radio receiver this season. And the middle linebacker welcomes the change, if for no other reason than to help level the playing field between the offense and defense during a game, according to Packers.com. "I definitely think it's a great thing, due to the fact that offense has that in their helmet and they can hear the coaches and they don't waste any time trying to figure out what each signal is," Barnett said. "That stuff is hard to do when you're tired and it's the fourth quarter and you can't find the coach through the crowd. I think it definitely will eliminate some communication problems as far as what the calls are, and open up lines of communication when we're on the field." The one-way device will operate much like the one the quarterback has on offense, with a coach able to communicate with the player from the time the 40-second play clock starts until 15 seconds remain, or until the snap, whichever comes first.

Nick Barnett entered into a plea agreement that will allow him to avoid facing a criminal conviction stemming from a nightclub incident last summer, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. A pair of misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges filed against Barnett for the incident at an Appleton nightclub the night of June 16-17 will be dropped if the Green Bay Packers linebacker meets the requirements of the agreement. Under the league's personal conduct policy, an arrest is enough for the commissioner to consider discipline. Given the result of the plea agreement, Barnett probably won't face suspension, but that is up to the discretion of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. If there is no suspension, Barnett could still be fined.
