As rumors continue to swirl around the condition and status of his knees, Chicago tackle Tommie Harris is in attendance at this week's minicamp but is not taking part in any team drills, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

Tommie Harris does not have a degenerative condition in the knee, according to the Sun Times. There are concerns for the Bears as they consider how long Harris can remain a top performer, after playing on a bad left knee last season. But he did not miss a game, and Dr. James Andrews certified to the team after arthroscopic surgery in January that Harris does not have a degenerative condition in the knee. He notably had major surgery to repair his left hamstring in 2006. Harris is currently in the middle of a contract negotiation with the team, and he memorably registered a career high eight sacks in 2007.

Chicago Bears team president Ted Phillips and coach Lovie Smith addressed the growing concerns surrounding contract negotiations with both defensive tackle Tommie Harris and linebacker Brian Urlacher, according to the Associated Press. The general feeling is one of patient work as these officials have brought the typical comments that have become all too stale in these occasions. “Let’s face it, Tommie Harris, Brian Urlacher, they’re important to us,” Phillips told reports during a ceremony awarding Harris with the team’s Ed Block Courage Award. “That’s why we’re engaged in discussions with them. We want to get those two guys done, that’s our philosophy. We believe in rewarding our own, and that’s what we intend to do, hopefully, in both of their cases.” Urlacher’s current deal commits the Bears to his services through 2011, but he has demanded renegotiation and is refusing to attend the team’s 10-week voluntary conditioning drills until that gets done. Harris will be a free agent after next season and been attempting to get a new deal in place with agent Drew Rosenhaus to keep that from happening.
