Tatum Bell did not like playing for his former offensive coordinator, Mike Martz, and he let it be known, according to the Detroit News. "I am glad Martz is gone and you can tell him I said it, too ... "I was so happy to get out of here after the last game. Playing for Martz last year I hated it. You don't understand how hurt I was sitting on the sidelines and not getting that many carries. I mean, I started the season with like 15 carries and then I got like five carries (actually nine) against Minnesota. I know they are a good run-stop team, but that shows you we're scared of them. That ticked me off. How many starting running backs do you know get five carries in a game?" Bell asked.

It is not guaranteed that running back Tatum Bell will have a spot on Detroit's final roster, according to MLive.com. Bell has just 12 rushes for 17 yards on the preseason. The team could be looking to keep Artose Pinner, who has rushed 18 times for 64 yards thus far.

The Lions offense' suits Tatum Bell as the team is going to adopt the Broncos zone running scheme, according to the Detroit Free Press. This is good news for Bell and lineman Dom Raiola noted, "We just need backs back there with good vision. I don’t think it matters. If you look at the Denver system, it doesn’t matter who’s back there. Any running back who comes in this league is going to have that. It’s going to give him a good chance in this offense." Bell is currently number one on the Lions depth chart at running back.

The Detroit Lions’ offensive coaching staff fought to bring running back Tatum Bell back into the fold, according to the Detroit Free Press. "The offensive staff stood on the table for him," coach Rod Marinelli said. "They fought. They really wanted him back." With new offensive coordinator Jim Colletto running the show, the Lions plan to run a simpler, more-balanced offense, and they thought Bell would be a solid fit. The running game will feature zone runs like the ones Bell once ran in Denver, where he racked up 1,946 yards over two seasons. Bell’s stock is definitely on the rise with this news and the recent release of Kevin Jones. But keep in mind, the team is likely to draft a rookie runner during the 2008 NFL draft.

Tatum Bell has stated that his goal is to rush for 1300 yards in 2008, according to The Detroit News. He is hoping to be the Lions' starting RB, and also has his sights set on 15 touchdowns. The Lions will reportedly employ more running plays and will use the zone scheme that Bell had success with while in Denver. Former Pro-Bowl Fullback Gash commented on Bell and the new system,"Tatum possesses a lot of qualities that an NFL runner needs. He has good size at 213 pounds. He's fearless in the sense that he'll block for you. He's been a successful back in the NFL. He's still a young guy who has a lot left in his tank. Last year, I don't know if you want to count it. With the speed and what we're going to do, he fits the mold."

The Dallas Cowboys are interested in Detroit free agent running back Tatum Bell, according to ESPN. Bell, who was begging for a trade out of Detroit midway through last season, could be a nice fit as a backup running back. He was a 1,000-yard rusher for Denver in 2006. He's also a Dallas native and, at 26, he still has fresh legs. The Cowboys already have the thunder with Marion Barber, and Bell could serve as the lightning. He could give Barber a blow once in a while, and give Dallas a homerun hitter who has the capability to take it to the house every time he touches the rock.

Tatum Bell is expected to test the free agent market when it opens on Feb.29, according to freep.com The Detroit Lions organization has been trying to convince Bell to return to the fold by telling him they are implementing more of a run based offense in 2008. Sounds like their words are hitting deaf ears, as Bell who collected splinters on the bench for the final 11 games last year is going to test the market. He has averaged 4.8 yards per carry during his career, but is known as a player who is at his best with a 15 carry limit. The Tennessee Titans are rumored to be interested in his services as a homerun hitter to compliment LenDale White. In addition, there are rumors that the Chicago Bears could be interested in teaming him up with Cedric Benson.
