Tatum Bell carried 16 times for 63 yards in Week 14. Bell had twice as many carries as Mike Anderson, who gained only 21 yards.

After missing one game with a bruised chest, Tatum Bell returned to action in Week 13. Bell carried only five times but gained 46 yards. Ron Dayne cut into the workload of Bell and Mike Anderson a bit, as he rushed eight times for 26 yards.

Tatum Bell says he's ready to play through his chest injury on Sunday against the Chiefs, according to the AP. "I'm good to go. I already knew I could play," Bell said. "It's just a matter of getting out there and getting into the groove." Bell sat out in Week 12 with the injury, which was the result of a sideline hit early in the second half against the Jets on Nov. 20.

Tatum Bell missed practice on Monday due to a family matter, according to the Broncos' official site. "He's got another conflict today that he's addressing; it's a family matter," Head Coach Mike Shanahan said Monday. "But he would be on special teams -- at least we think he would -- if he didn't have that today." Bell left Sunday's game with a chest injury and is receiving treatment. If he is unable to go on Thursday, Ron Dayne will be activated.

Tatum Bell had his second straight big game for the Broncos and fantasy players on Sunday. Bell rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries. He shared the work load about evenly with Mike Anderson, who carried 15 times for 57 yards. Both players had a touchdown in short yardage.

After Ron Dayne came up short on a third-and-1 on the Broncos' first drive Sunday, he gave way to Tatum Bell as the primary backup to Mike Anderson, according to the Denver Post. "All week, I was running behind Dayne," Bell said. "Then all the sudden in the flow of the game, they put me in. They kind of trusted me. They knew what I could do and it felt good to go in there and make plays." Bell finished the game with 15 carries for 60 yards.

Tatum Bell ended the first week of training camp No. 2 on the depth chart at running back, behind Mike Anderson, according to the Denver Post. Bell could end up the top option by the regular season, but Anderson appears likely to be the primary goal-line option, regardless.

The Denver Post reports that Tatum Bell has two goals as he prepares for his first season as a starter: bulk up and improve his receiving. Bell, who weighs about 208 pounds, would like to play at 215 in 2005. He only caught five balls for 80 yards as a rookie, but he knows he'll be asked to do more this season. He played through the final four games with an injured shoulder, but that ailment has now completely healed.
