Tatum Bell was getting the bulk of carries early on Sunday but again fumbled the ball. After that, Mike Bell was the primary running back for the Broncos and Tatum was used sparingly. Tatum finished up with 12 carries for 50 yards, while Mike had 16 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown. So long as Tatum can't keep control of the ball, he's going to have a hard time staying on the field.

After Tatum Bell fumbled Sunday, he appeared tentative on the next play - gaining only one yard - so running backs coach Bobby Turner replaced him with Mike Bell, according to the Denver Post. Tatum finished with just 29 yards on 18 carries, while Mike had 61 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. "Yards were hard to come by for me," Tatum Bell said. "I know I messed up. Mike was hot - keep him in there. I'm cool. It was just like last year with me and Mike (Anderson). A guy gets hot, you go with him. I'm proud of Mike."

Tatum Bell is not listed on the injury report this week, an encouraging sign as he's been battling turf toe problems on both feet for much of the season. Bell had 133 yards rushing on 23 carries last week against Seattle, though he did have to come out of the game a few times because he was winded.

Tatum Bell, who had missed three of the last four games, didn't appear to hindered by any turf toe issues on Sunday, as he scampered for 133 yards on 23 carries against Seattle - just 21 of the yards came in the second half. No one else on the team received more than four carries (Mike Bell) on the day.

Bell has missed three of the last four games as he battles turf toe problems. "I think Tatum is fine," Shanahan said after Thursday's workout. "He is ready to go." Tatum Bell is expected to practice fully this week, and assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he's expected to start against the Seahawks in Week 13, according to the Denver Post. Tatum Bell was upgraded to probable on the injury report after practicing on Wednesday. It's highly unlikely that he's completely recovered from his turf toe, however, so at best he'll likely be sharing carries on Thursday. Mike Bell was also upgraded to probable. It's also worth noting that Bell has twice been deactivated this season after being listed as probable.

However, considering that Bell was listed as probable last week and still didn't play, it's tough to get a gauge on the likelihood of him returning to action this week. Coach Mike Shanahan said he won't know what the status of Tatum Bell will be until he sees him practice this week, according to Rocky Mountain News. "If Tatum's ready to go and he's full speed, he'll go," Shanahan said. "If he's hesitant and can't make the cut he's capable of making, we'll go another direction." "He took his normal reps and rotated. We've got four guys rotating, so a lot of guys getting reps." Tatum Bell missed part of Thursday's practice and remains questionable for Sunday's game against San Diego, the Denver Post reports. He's battling turf toe injuries on both foot. "It's just going to be hurting," Bell said. "I'm not going to be able to heal until the season is over, so keep on playing and eventually I'll get better. I have to get back on the road eventually." Even though Bell is determined to play through the pain, he concedes the injuries have affected him. "I think I lost a step a little bit, but I'm getting better, like I say," Bell said. "Hopefully this week I'll be able to go out and make some plays."

Tatum Bell and Mike Bell alternated every series as the tailback for the Broncos in the season opener. Tatum had 103 yards on 15 carries but did not catch a pass and was shut out of the end zone. Mike had 58 yards and a TD on 10 carries and caught four passes for 30 yards. Tatum also lost a fumble.

Mike Bell still seems to have the inside track, but Tatum Bell, Cedric Cobbs and Ron Dayne all will get a chance to prove their worth during the preseason finale, albeit behind the second-string offensive line.
