Tatum Bell did not practice on Thursday. The team’s official website notes that he was sidelined by a foot injury.

Tatum Bell will be active for Sunday’s game against the Packers, head coach Rod Marinelli told the Detroit Free Press. It will be the first time Bell has been active since October.

The Lions have informed Tatum Bell that they do not intend to oblige his trade request before Tuesday’s deadline, according to the Detroit Free Press. He asked to be traded due to the lack of carries he’s had in the last two games.

Tatum Bell has asked the Lions to trade him prior to next week’s deadline, according to ESPN.com. He is upset because his playing time has decreased since Kevin Jones returned from the injured list.

Tatum Bell believes he’ll be healthy enough to play in Thursday’s preseason finale despite the injury he suffered on Saturday. “I hurt my ankle in the past,” Bell told the Detroit News. “I got tackled from behind, rolled up from behind. I should be ready to play on Thursday.” The injury was originally listed as a shin problem.

It turns out that the injury that forced Tatum Bell out of Saturday's exhibition game was to his shin. Coach Rod Marinelli said that Bell would be fine, according to the Detroit Free Press. Assuming that's the case, Bell will be set as the Lions' featured running back in Week 1.

Tatum Bell left Saturday's game in the first quarter with an ankle injury. It's not yet known how serious the injury is. With Kevin Jones already on the sidelines this summer, the Lions, in theory, would have to look to T.J. Duckett and Brian Calhoun if Bell missed any significant time.

Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz heaped praise on Tatum Bell after practice on Monday. “Tatum right now is a different level,” Martz told the Detroit Free Press. “He’s better than I thought he’d be, to be honest with you. He’s the whole package. He’s got so much juice to him. He can go.” Bell is currently listed as the starter on the Lions depth chart.

With Tatum Bell still recovering from a Lisfranc fracture in his left foot, Tatum Bell has been taking the starter’s reps during minicamp workouts, the Detroit News reported on Friday. The Lions acquired Bell in an offseason trade with the Broncos.

ESPN.com reports that the Broncos have agreed to trade Tatum Bell, tackle George Foster and a draft pick to the Lions in exchange for cornerback Dre Bly. The deal cannot become official until Friday. Bell would compete with Kevin Jones for the starting tailback job in Detroit, assuming Jones recovers from his foot injury.
