As expected, the Bucs activated Luke McCown from the PUP list. McCown, who had been recovering from offseason knee surgery, will back up Bruce Gradkowski.

Luke McCown is close to coming off the PUP list, according to the St. Petersburg Times. McCown is coming back from a knee injury. When he's ready to go, look for the Bucs to place Chris Simms on injured reserve.

The Bucs are expected to activate Luke McCown from the IR this week, at which point they will place Chris Simms on the IR, according to the Tampa Tribune. "We like the fact that Luke has come back from his injury as quickly as he has," Coach Jon Gruden said. "He has taken some snaps on the practice field. We will make that determination here in the next four or five days. But we are gaining confidence in his return."

The Bucs placed Luke McCown on the PUP list on Tuesday, according to the St. Petersburg Times. That means McCown, who is recovering from a torn ACL, won't be eligible to play for six more weeks.

Luke McCown will undergo knee surgery to repair a partially torn anterior curciate ligament in his right knee suffered in a workout June 15. Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden declined to speculate on how long McCown would be sidelined but he did concede that McCown could start the season on the physically unable to perform list.
