Greg Jones says he's recovering faster from his current ACL tear than he did when he suffered the same injury in his junior year at Florida State, the Florida Times-Union reports. Jones has already been placed on injured reserve for the season.

The Jaguars placed Greg Jones on injured reserve yesterday, formally ending his season, according to the Florida Times-Union. He torn his ACL during the last preseason game and won't be ready to play again until next year.

The Jaguars have lost Greg Jones for the entire season, according to the Florida Times-Union. He tore the ACL in his left knee on Saturday and soon will undergo surgery. Derrick Wimbush will now move to fullback and likely see additional carries as one of Fred Taylor's many backups.

Greg Jones was knocked out of Saturday's exhibition game with a sprained MCL in his left knee, according to the AP. It wasn't the same knee that he sprained in college, though. "Really good news considering what it could have been," coach Jack Del Rio said. "The thought is that (he) should be back sometime during the Dallas week, ready for the opener."

Coach Jack Del Rio has said that Fred Taylor will be the starting running back when the season begins, meaning that Greg Jones will be in a backup role, according to the Florida Times-Union. However, Jones should still see plenty of work, and it's still possible that he could take over the No. 1 back sometime during the season, especially considering how Taylor has such a hard time staying healthy.

It appears that if Greg Jones has a good preseason, he could actually challenge Fred Taylor for the starting job, according to the Florida Times-Union. "You can pick your fantasy team anyway you want," Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said. "The guys who make plays, we're going to give more plays so they can make more of them. The more you produce, the more we're going to create ways to get your hands on the ball."

Greg Jones, who has missed the last two games with a neck injury, has insisted that he will be ready for the playoffs, according to the Florida Times-Union. "Of course I'll be there," Jones said. "It's the coach's decision, but the pain and swelling are gone and I've had a good week of practice. I'll be ready."
