Derrick Ward was placed on IR Tuesday after suffering a broken leg on Sunday, according to the Sports Network. The Giants signed rookie Danny Ware off the Jets' practice squad to replace Ward on the roster. Derrick Ward may be done for the season. He fractured his left fibula near his ankle during Sunday's game, according to the New York Daily News. "Mine isn't a complete break," Ward said. "Mine is a fracture, a little line." More will be known about his status after an MRI is taken Monday morning, but it sounds like he'll miss at least some action, regardless. Brandon Jacobs, who missed Sunday's game with his own injury, and Reuben Droughns remain the other RB options for the Giants.

Starting in place of the injured Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries Sunday (although he fumbled twice). However, he was forced to leave the game late in the fourth quarter after suffering a left ankle injury. Ward left the stadium on crutches and is expected to undergo an MRI on Monday. If Ward is forced to miss some time, and Brandon Jacobs still isn't ready to return in Week 14, Reuben Droughns would get the start.

"He has another couple days to try to get ready and the word on Jacobs is not there yet."

Derrick Ward did not participate in practice on Friday because of ankle and groin injuries. He's considered doubtful for Sunday's contest against the Cowboys, according to the AP. The good people of England will not witness the talents of Giants running back Derrick Ward. That is because he’s inactive for Week 8 with an ankle injury. Reuben Droughns will be Brandon Jacobs’ primary backup today and should see an uptick in touches.

Ward also caught four passes for 35 yards, while Droughns grabbed one pass for four yards.

He's certainly proved in training camp that he deserves the opportunity and he certainly will get some more," Coughlin tells the New York Daily News. He adds to the team's official web site, "Droughns will get more work now, obviously."
