Willie Parker probably won't practice Wednesday due to a sore knee, and the injury will probably be an issue the remainder of the year, though Parker plans to play through it. Parker has 873 rushing yards through nine games, though he's scored just twice and hasn't been used much in the passing game (15 catches, 110 yards).

If you had any worries about Willie Parker having his workload reduced for any reason, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has you covered. “We’re going to ride Willie until the wheels come off,” Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “He’s game for that, he’s in great physical condition, he wants the ball, he’s a competitor and he’s showing he’s capable of doing that. He's getting better with each carry as these games go on, and I'm starting to realize that about him. He's a rhythm runner. So we're going to feed him. We're not going to make any bones about that.”

Willie Parker is expected to take part in his first preseason game on Saturday. "We have to get Willie Parker going," coach Mike Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Parker has been held back so far so he could rest the strained muscle behind his left knee. Barring a setback, he should be fine for the start of the regular season.

It looks like the Steelers will hold Willie Parker out of Saturday's preseason game due to his sore knee. "Willie has inflammation of the knee, and usually that takes 10 to 14 days and we're about 11 to 12 days into it now, so we're coming toward the end," Tomlin told the AP. With any luck, the rest will help Parker get up to speed and ready to take part in the Steelers' third exhibition game next week.

Willie Parker missed his fourth straight practice on Friday and won’t play on Sunday against the Saints. “I think we’d be smart to protect him,” head coach Mike Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Najeh Davenport will start in Parker's place.
August 2, 2007
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin called Willie Parker’s left knee injury “training camp knee,” and told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that his starting running back will be “fine.” Parker is unlikely to practice the rest of the week and will not dress against the Saints on Sunday. Backup Najeh Davenport has reportedly looked strong in Parker’s place.

Willie Parker will not play in Pittsburgh’s first preseason game on Sunday night against New Orleans, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Parker could miss the rest of the week of practices after sitting out for a second straight day on Wednesday with slight soreness and swelling in his left knee. The Steelers reportedly consider the injury to be a small matter and are proceeding with caution to avoid it becoming a serious one.

Willie Parker did not practice Wednesday morning, the second straight session he has missed. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Parker was seen walking with an ice bag on his left knee and talking to team trainer John Norwig. Coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that Parker was held out to give him a rest.

Willie Parker has bold goals for his future. "I want to be better than LT," Parker tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "LT can do all that stuff. He's like a role model to me. I look up to this guy. I just want to do what he does." Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians added fuel to the fire, "LT had a lot of touches, and if Willie has those kinds of touches, his yards could be the same. I like the fact he wants to be better. I don't ever want him on the bench unless he's tired."
