Mike Nugent aggravated coach Eric Mangini when he missed two field goal attempts on Saturday against Washington, according to the NY Post. He missed wide right on a 43-yard attempt, and hit the left upright on a shorter try from 23-yards. Mangini said, "Those field goals are pretty high-percentage field goals, in the 90 percent range league-wide. Those you have to make. It's a chip shot. The 43-yarder is a lot tougher, but when you're that close (23 yards), those have to be like gimmes."

Mike Nugent added about 10 pounds of muscle during the offseason and expects to take his game to the next level. "I can definitely feel the difference," Nugent told the New York Post. "I looked around the league at some of the better kickers, like Olindo [Mare] and [Adam] Vinatieri, and saw that even though they were only an inch or so taller than me, they had 10 or 20 pounds on me. I knew the only way I would ever get to that level would be to get bigger, so that's what I did."

Jets placekicker Mike Nugent kicked four field goals on Sunday, including a career long of 54 yards. Nugent missed two field goals in the season opener but is 11-of-12 since then.

After missing two short-range field goal attempts and an extra point in the season opener, Mike Nugent got a tepid vote of confidence from coach Eric Mangini yesterday, according to the New York Daily News. "Mike's our kicker," he said. "He'll be kicking this weekend." The Jets auditioned three free-agent kickers on Tuesday.
