The Texans placed wide receiver and return man Jerome Mathis on injured reserve on Saturday. Mathis has a "hot spot" in the lower part of his left leg that has been causing him pain.

Jerome Mathis is not expected to play on Sunday due to a sore lower leg, according to the Houston Chronicle. With the Texans WR corps hit hard by injuries, Mathis could have seen some added looks this week, but that won't be the case now.

Jerome Mathis , whose 2006 season was abbreviated by foot surgery and troublesome hamstrings, is sidelined once again. The Texans’ Pro Bowl kick returner participated in the first five days of OTAs before hamstring issues flared again and knocked him off the field. “He has to get in the training room and get healthy,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak told the Houston Chronicle. “He’s got a heck of a battle on his hands to be a part of this football team and the only way he’s going to be able to do that is to be healthy.”
