It appears as though Michael Koenen will stick to punting despite his attempt to kick field goals in 2006. “I like what Michael Koenen is doing,” head coach Bobby Petrino told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “He’s punted as well as he has since I’ve been here.” Billy Cundiff and Aaron Elling are slated to compete for the kicking job.

Michael Koenen will go back to punting and kickoff duties only now that the Falcons have signed Morten Andersen. Koenen could still get some long-range field goal attempts.

Michael Koenen missed all four of his field goal attempts in Week 2, and all of the attempts were from 40 yards and in. Koenen also missed two field goal attempts in the opener, and it seems likely that the Falcons will move him back to punting only after this performance.

After going a perfect 10-for-10 on field goal attempts in the preseason, Michael Koenen was just 2-for-4 in the season opener on Sunday. However, both misses came from 50 yards out, with one of the kicks being blocked.

Michael Koenen is expected to handle all of the placekicking and punting chores for the Falcons Sunday. Koenen made all 10 of his field-goal tries in the preseason, including two from over 50 yards.
