Vernon Davis garnered praise from new OC Mike Martz, according to the Sacramento Bee. Martz said, "I don't know if anyone in the league can run like Davis can at that position. He gets down the field so fast. I don't know who beats him in a footrace." Martz also noted that Davis worked the hardest among all of the players in the off-season.

One of the most interesting things to watch in San Francisco in 2008 will be how well tight end Vernon Davis is able to digest new coordinator Mike MartzÂ’s complicated offensive scheme, according to Pro Football Weekly. In regard to DavisÂ’ performance last season, one of his teammates told a team source that he had never seen a NFL starter make so many mistakes. Davis, who started 14 games last season, compiled 52 receptions for 509 yards and four touchdowns, despite being used mostly as a possession receiver. It will be interesting to see how Martz implements Davis into the scheme, given the fact he has never prominently featured the tight end position in the past.

Vernon Davis has gained praise from Coach Nolan, according to the SF Chronicle. Nolan was asked about Davis' route running skils and replied, "He's a wild horse kind of player rather than a polished tight end. Davis still has a lot to learn, but is better after the catch than Gates and Gonzalez. In terms of blocking, Davis is better than the other two could ever dream of being." Davis has potential to be an elite fantasy tight end.

As expected, Vernon Davis returned from his sprained MCL on Sunday, though he continued to post unimpressive fantasy numbers. Davis caught four passes for 22 yards and didn't get in the end zone. The talent is still there for the injury-plagued second-year tight end, so you simply have to hope that he can stay on the field and step up his game in the second half of the season.
