Jay Cutler, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes this off-season, is adjusting well according to Yahoo Sports.
May 5, 2008
Jay Cutler will wear an insulin pump during practices and pre-game warm-ups to regulate his blood-sugar level, once he gets back to his 238-pound playing weight and his condition fully stabilizes, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Then he'll take the device off for the three hours he plays in games, keeping a close eye on his glucose levels - either between quarters or at halftime - and drinking Gatorade to give his body a boost rather than letting the machine do the work for him. "We wish we would have caught it towards the end of the season, and that's probably my fault, because we were trying to schedule a blood test but I had a lot of things going on. And once the season ended, everybody kind of scatters around here," Cutler said. "But I think we caught it relatively soon. And talking to the doctors, if I get this under control, there shouldn't be any long-term damage."

In an interview with CBS 4 in Denver regarding his recent diagnosis with Type I diabetes, Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler says that he was feeling the effects of the condition during the 2007 season, according to Pro Football Talk. “We looked back, and I dropped 8-10 pounds in October,” Cutler said. “So at least six months. The second half of the season [it] was kind of something I was dealing with at the time. I was losing weight, didn’t have a lot of strength. You could tell. Just the way I played, some of the throws that I made didn’t have a lot behind them.”

The Denver Broncos have tabbed young QB Jay Cutler as the future of the organization, and with their approach to this year's NFL Draft, the team continues to show just how seriously they take those goals. With the 12th-overall pick in the Draft, the Broncos selected Boise State OT Ryan Clady, followed by the selection of Virginia Tech WR Eddie Royal in the 2nd round.
