Manager Eric Mangini has said that there will be an open competition at quarterback between Kellen Clemens and Chad Pennington, but the team is really pulling for Clemens to win the job, according to the NY Daily News. The team drafted Clemens in the second round of the draft two years ago, and has high expectations for him, and also want to prove their assessment of his talent was right.

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has given head coach Eric Mangini and general manager Mike Tannenbaum the often dreaded vote of confidence, according to ESPN. When the Jets threw more than $140 million at free agents this offseason, their expectations seemed clear: another four-win season would be intolerable. But Johnson said recently that Mangini and Tannenbaum would "absolutely" keep their jobs for 2009, regardless of how the coming season pans out.

Kellen Clemens made it through the week without any apparent setbacks. He should start Sunday against the Chiefs, according to the New York Daily News. Clemens was unable to suit up last week due to his rib and shoulder injuries, but he's going to give it a try in the finale.

The Jets have listed Kellen Clemens as questionable for Sundays game against the Chiefs due to the rib injury that kept him off of the field last week. Chad Pennington would get his second consecutive start, which could be his last in a Jets uniform, if Clemens is unable to go.

Kellen Clemens (ribs, shoulder) is improving and may be able to start against the Chiefs in Week 17, the New York Daily News reports. Chad Pennington took his place in Week 16.
