Dominique Byrd has been set free by the Rams, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He was released on Monday, and is scheduled to go to trial in St. Louis Circuit Court on felony charges of assault and armed criminal action resulting from a nightclub brawl downtown in December of 2006. In March 2007, he was charged with DUI in California. In October, he pleaded no contest and received three years' probation.

In case you were wondering why tight end Dominique Byrd wasn’t active for the season finale, it was because he missed a team meeting. "We haven't verified it yet, but he said he had checked himself into a hospital," coach Scott Linehan told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "He never really told us anything about what it was, but he was sick, and they were able to let him out. So we just decided to leave him home once we found he was OK, and told him we will address it on Monday." You probably didn’t even notice Byrd was inactive because he isn’t a big part of the Rams offense. He could be off the team by the time the 2008 season kicks off.

Dominique Byrd was arrested last weekend on suspicion of DUI, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Byrd, who caught two passes for 39 yards and a TD in his rookie season last year, was charged in December with allegedly hitting a bar patron in the face with a glass. "It's not the kind of news you want to hear," coach Scott Linehan said. "We'll turn that over to the league."
