Michael Robinson underwent an MRI after spraining his right knee during practice in an 11-on-11 drill Sunday, according to the SF Chronicle. He said, "My foot got stuck in the ground while I was cutting. I don't think it's anything serious."

Speaking of running back Michael Robinson, new offensive coordinator Mike Martz expressed noteworthy expectations of pairing him with Frank Gore, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "One can block for the other, or (we can) use them both as receivers," Martz said. "There's all kinds of things that can happen out of that."

Michael Robinson signed an extension with the Niners to remain with the club through the 2012 season, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Terms of the signing bonus were not announced though he will receive salaries of $650,000, $750,00 and $850,000.

While there are no indications that the 49ers are even considering versatile running back Michael Robinson as the front-runner at fullback, daily team observers believe the 228-pound bruiser wouldn’t be a bad candidate to fill that role, provided he put on 10-15 pounds, according to Pro Football Weekly. It shouldn’t be too hard to find an upgrade for Moran Norris, who regressed last season, and Robinson provides an extra dimension, beyond being just a pile-moving blocker, with his running and receiving skills.

The San Francisco 49ers have signed running back Michael Robinson to a three-year contract extension, according to ESPN. Robinson's extension, the complete financial details of which were not immediately available, keeps him with the 49ers through the 2012 season. Robinson, 21, has played mostly as a third-down back for the 49ers for the past two seasons, and has also been a special teams standout.
