Brady Quinn made his NFL debut Sunday, coming on for an ailing Derek Anderson for a series late in the first half and completing 3-of-8 passes for 45 yards. Anderson returned from his finger injury after halftime, so it was a short debut for the rookie.

Browns head coach Romeo Crennel was non-committal Monday about his starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Bengals. Both Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson struggled in week one, leading to speculation that Brady Quinn could be next in line for the job, perhaps as early as this week. "For me to make a comment on where I think Brady is or where he is on the depth chart, that's making a personnel decision," Crennel told the Associated Press, "so I'm not going to do that."

Brady Quinn was the Browns No. 3 quarterback and didn't see any action in Week 1, but things could change quickly in Cleveland. Starter Charlie Frye completed just four of 10 passes for 34 yards and an interception before being pulled in the first quarter. His replacement, Derek Anderson, didn't fare much better, completing 13-of-28 for 184 yards, a touchdown and an interception. It's only a matter of time before Quinn takes the helm, and that time could be coming quickly.

Browns GM Phil Savage pretty much shot down any notion that Brady Quinn would take over as the starting quarterback in Week 1. "It's unrealistic to think he'll be ready for the opener," Savage told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Quinn has done well in his preseason action, but after missing so much of training camp due to a holdout, he's just too far behind. Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson should start in Week 1, but it's only a matter of time before Quinn will take the helm.

Brady Quinn looked good in his first NFL action Saturday, completing 13-of-20 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns at the end of Cleveland's loss to Detroit. Quinn was Cleveland's fourth quarterback on the night; Ken Dorsey played well prior to Quinn's appearance, but Derek Anderson (two turnovers) and Charlie Frye did not.

Brady Quinn ended his holdout by signing a five-year contract with the Browns Tuesday morning. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the deal guarantees the 22nd overall pick $7.75 million and includes escalators that could push the total value of the contract close to $30 million. The hope was that Quinn would get to camp in time to settle the quarterback battle between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson. However, after missing 15 practices it is unlikely Quinn will be in the mix to start the season at the Browns' helm. Still, neither Frye nor Anderson have looked all that great thus far, so you can't rule anything out.

As quarterback Brady Quinn’s holdout continues, the Browns’ patience continues to wear thin. While the team has been mostly silent about the holdout, general manager Phil Savage went on the team’s flagship radio station, WTAM, on Thursday and was blunt in his comments, which were reported by the Akron Beacon Journal. “We’ll talk all day,” Savage said. “We’ll talk all night. We’ll hammer this thing out. But you have to have two sides that are willing to engage.” After pointing out that the Browns have extended several contracts, guaranteed Joe Thomas more money than any other rookie offensive lineman in NFL history, paid heavily for free agents LeCharles Bentley and Eric Steinbach, and gave a little extra to sign cornerback Eric Wright, he added: “All of a sudden the Browns are going to shift gears and try to extract blood from the quarterback that we picked, that we say is going to be the face of this franchise, that we say is the future of this team? It makes no sense. It's not logical and I think people are smart enough to figure that out.”

The Browns would like to have a starting quarterback in place after the team’s first preseason game on August 11, the Akron Beacon Journal reported. General manager Phil Savage would not say how that quick decision might bode for Brady Quinn, who is still holding out. Coach Romeo Crennel said that Quinn would have gotten as many reps as Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye had he been to camp on time, but now when Quinn does sign he’ll likely be placed last on the depth chart.

Brady Quinn is holding out of training camp with the Browns. The two sides are having trouble nailing down a contract for a player they view as their future franchise quarterback, but who fell all the way to the 22nd overall pick on draft day. Any extended holdout would pretty much nix any shot he might have to win the starting job. It's unlikely he'd pull that off, anyway, but rookie quarterbacks who hold out lose a lot of experience in the process.

Brady Quinn was not picked by the Browns with the No. 3 overall pick, but when he slid down the draft board, the Browns jumped back into the fray and selected him at No. 22. To acquire that pick, they sent the Cowboys their 2007 second-rounder (No. 36 overall) and their first-rounder in 2008. The Browns grabbed offensive lineman Joe Thomas with their own pick at No. 3.
