Oakland offensive coordinator Greg Knapp will be the one who is calling plays for the Raiders, taking over for the fired Lane Kiffin in that regard, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported this morning that Lane Kiffin is preparing a grievance against the Oakland Raiders to retrieve the $3.5 million remaining on his contract.

Owner Al Davis think it's time to unleash JaMarcus Russell in the passing game, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "If this kid is going to be what I think he is, we have to let him go," he said. However, offensive coordinator Greg Knapp is more hesitant to demand so much of Russell right away. "This is truly his rookie year," he said. "To answer your question, probably not just yet. I know everybody wants that to be the case, but let's be real. A young quarterback has a lot of growing to go through, and it takes a season or two. It's probably not until your third or fourth year (that) you have a good comfort zone."

After Raiders owner Al Davis said in his news conference that former coach Lane Kiffin did not want to draft quarterback JaMarcus Russell, Russell maintains that there are no hard feelings, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "I appreciate the opportunity he gave me to play in the National Football League. Wish for him to go out and get him a job because he's a good guy, a good coach," he said.

In a fascinating 45 minute press conference, Raiders owner Al Davis blasted former coach Lane Kiffin, and threw a plethora of accusations at him. Davis said Kiffin did not want to draft JaMarcus Russell with the first overall pick last season; that he wanted to leave Oakland in the middle of last year to take the job at Arkansas (which eventually went to Bobby Petrino), but Davis would not let him go until the end of the season; and that Kiffin was not fired for what happened on the field, but for his continued lying.
