Bengals waive two Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Bengals waived linebackers
Anthony Schlegel and Roy Manning on Thursday.
Schlegel, a third-year player from Ohio State, played in 13 games, including
five starts, for the Bengals last season. He had 34 tackles on defense and four
special teams tackles.
Manning, a fourth-year player from Michigan played in five games and had seven
special teams tackles for Cincinnati last season.... More...
Chris Perry is healthy and ready to play this season, and that is the reason why the Bengals didn't take a running back in the draft, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
First-round draft pick Keith Rivers, a linebacker from Southern Cal, worked on the weak-side position - which he played in college - and impressed coaches with his fluid play and work ethic during the Cincinnati BengalsÂ’ three-day (five practice) rookie minicamp this past weekend, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Coaches were impressed, too, with Rivers' natural leadership and ability to call his position players together. "He showed things that are innate," Lewis said. "Every time he was not in a meeting, he was upstairs watching tape on his own. He already gets it."
Head coach Marv Lewis expects Chris Perry to be on the field when the Bengals begins a voluntary minicamp on May 13, the team's official web site reports. He hasn't played since breaking his right fibula in November of 2006.
